i'm sure they can still scramble our brains pretty good by exploiting ranking, but if they aren't allowed to customize it per person (e.g., if the same searches have to return the same results for different people), I think it wil

Yeah, but doing it with non-anonymous crypto just seems worse in every way than doing it with a database?

We should ban dynamic feeds that aren't based on explicit user action. E.g., Youtube should only be able to show search results based on search term, not search context. The recommendations should only be videos from channels you have

Permissionless doesn't mean much if it's not anonymous (central authority wants to stop you from doing x; sees you doing x with non-anonymous coin, punishes you). I understand the appeal of anonymous currencies like Monero (hence

I don’t understand this take - if all engineers go on call, they learn real quick what happens when their coworkers are too innovative. It is a good feedback loop that teaches them not to make unreliable software. SREs are great when the pr

I firmly believe "AI will be used by the psycho weasel billionaires to torture us all", but this article is weak. It seems like it was written by people too scared of AI to use it. They have a couple of points you realize in your

MySQL performs well at large scale, and has a very cool and weird storage engine option called MyRocks, that slows read performance but allows demented write rates and compression. But yes, it is very bad.

This kind of stuff is taboo for a reason. There are so many ways for it to go horribly wrong for society. Sure, it could be used to make the world better. So could the internet. How is that working out for us? Do you think that corporations
