I love it too, though I never use it for working with entire projects but rather for smaller text editing tasks because it's so snappy. It's my scratchpad for notes and stuff, I will investigate and edit single files, and I use it

Zed supports comments in the JSON file. I don't think I've seen any editor which uses JSON for configuration not allow comments in the file.

I nearly lost an account because I assumed that 1Password was just being dumb not offering to auto-fill credentials. Turns out I'm the dumb one for doubting it. Now if 1Password shows nothing to auto-fill I make damn sure I'm on t

NodeRed is awesome. I didn't even bother with anything beyond very, very simple automations until I installed that. For me the flow design feels very natural and is easy to modify and monitor. And it's pluggable with custom nodes

I don't think you should treat unsafe code as that level of toxic. It's necessary when interfacing with with system APIs. The important part is that you try to have safe wrappers around the unsafe calls and that you document why t

I don't see how PEMDAS is relevant for a 4 function calculator. The implicit equals when you press an operator means that they always work sequentially rather than jumping around.

Fertility rate is an incredibly misleading name. The rate is referencing the number of children people are having, not their physical ability to have them.

Same here. I had the trackpad disabled on my ThinkPad in college (which always confused others when they tried to use it). After college I switched to a MacBook Air and was shocked at how good the trackpad on it was. It's incredible th

Would be silly for anyone to take the other side of that bet. It's clear most people don't care. Early on I tried to explain to people why their feature requests didn't make sense in the federated design, but eventually I gav

I'm glad they finally learned to use sensible names. I guess it took the failure of the Wii U for them to realize they should just keep it simple if they want to be sure it's easy for consumers to understand what the product is.

IIRC they have improved the hardware encoder over the generations of cards, but yes NVENC has worse quality than libx264. NVENC is really meant for running the compression in real-time with minimal performance impact to the system. Basicall

And with the POSIX EREs, everything except the syntax for character classes will carry over to other common Regex dialects.

I think we've had the luxury of training ourselves to only identify the best looking produce as safe/tasty. I doubt it's ingrained in our nature, which is to say, if you're raised in a situation where you can't be a

I love how wonderfully simple the solution is and how it incurs no performance/memory penalty. Literally just changing the arithmetic shift right instruction to the logical shift right instruction.

I'm glad SQL Server finally got this, but I wish the syntax was nicer. It's a multi-word infix operator that gets tough to read. I've been using Snowflake SQL recently and I like that they just made it a function called EQUAL

Yes that does seem to be the way going forward. Makes it a lot easier to write cross-platform code. Though library code still has to use the Wide Character APIs because it's up to the application as a whole to opt into UTF-8. Also if y

I do recall an 8K push but I thought that was on the 3090 (and was conditional on DLSS doing the heavy lifting). I don't remember any general marketing about the 4090 being an 8K card but I could very well have missed it or be mixing t

Efficiency is why I switched from a 3090 to a 4080. The amount of heat generated by my PC was massively reduced with that change. Even if the xx90 weren't jumping up in price each generation, I wouldn't be tempted to buy one again

The new DLSS 4 framegen really needs to be much better than what's there in DLSS 3. Otherwise the 5070 = 4090 comparison won't just be very misleading but flatly a lie.
