At Pusher we use Docker for CI. I've developed a little command-line tool ( https://github.com/zimbatm/cide ) that can run the same environment on the developer machine and Jenkins. It also makes the Jenkins configu

Agreed, the code could be made a bit more idiomatic. Introducing a Transducable module would also make sense in the OOP perspective. Replacing Transducer.transduce(transducer, ...) calls with transducer.transduce(...), same with Transducer.

Building is not even the most expensive part. Once a nuclear power plant reaches it's end of life each little piece is radioactive and needs to be disposed of with specialised tools. It takes decades to deconstruct a power plant. The p

Why is is that each time offensive Linus quotes are used only a handful of them show up ? Over the thousands of emails that have been exchanged in the last fifteen years there surely must exist a bigger variety.

> but is apparently normal for pure functional languages Where did you hear that? It's certainly true for Clojure as well. My guess is that it applies to any language that uses immutable data structures. I remember Ric

It's the Internet, why wouldn't I write about my experience ? And I'm sure it's possible to tune GHC. The argument is that if you're going to write immutable data structures in ruby then there is going to be more GC

It's from memory, it's possible that the major GC where around 50ms. Minor GC where around 5ms for sure.

Recently I benchmarked a small network server written in Haskell. During the load testing the GHC runtime would allocate at rates of 1.6GB/s which is highly unusual from my experience but is apparently normal for pure functional langua

Unfortunately inside of AWS there is no other solution than to rely on DNS to update the list of IP that resolve from an address (even ELB does that). Route53 has health-checks that can update the list automatically. Uptime is entirely depe

Most of the EC2 boot time is taken by the resource allocation and provisioning of the host (~2min). Changing the init system would only save you a couple of seconds of that.

That's for desktops where boot times are more important. Starting A and B at the same time allows to lower that time. On servers you want to wait for A to be ready before starting B. Otherwise the socket min timeout from B to A is dict

One big difference is that if you don't declare a resource it doesn't exist anymore. With chef, puppet and friends there's a big gray area of things that are one the machine but not managed by the tool. In practice there are

Subresource Integrity (SRI) addresses the problem indirectly but it allows you to add checksums to resources. There's various security considerations in regards to caching, I don't think that the doc touches them all: http:/

If the cars can sense you and stop in time you don't need to remove the cyclists and pedestrians from the road. Having no misbehaving driver would arguably be safer for the cyclists (until a firmware update crushes them all).

I like that the whole WM is implemented in two files, a .h for configuration and a .c. The code looks clean and has embedded ascii-art. This looks like a project made with love.
