Not really relevant, it's not the revenue that is a problem. It's their massive network effects that are, as the author puts it, platform monopolies. Walmart, Toyota, Apple, do not have entrenching networks that lead to a monopol

True, still the color choice is poor. Strong red color brings to mind, personally, a high value. I thought it would mean 90-100, except it actually meant 0-9. If red isn't clearly good or bad, then don't use it. Use light to dar

Yes we hear in log scale, but why would that be intuitive? Ask someone how loud or soft any sound is - a dog bark, a cymbal crash, a whisper - and you won't get a numeric response. We're used to measuring distances, weights, etc

Yep, 8 bit 8MHz microcontrollers are already plenty of power for a lot of hobbyist applications. And if not there are plenty of super cheap (<$5) boards with ARM 32 bit processors, or wifi/bluetooth built in

It's the radio that is consuming most of the power. Even using your IR transmitter to send a short burst every 5 minutes wouldn't be as much power as if you had an IR receiver that had to listen to incoming signals. But still, st

Depends on the application of course. A 5 minute sampling time for some applications (erosion and climate studies comes to mind) may be overkill. And a system that needs to respond to random events would be designed differently, with extern

I had a professor that did his thesis on a 10 year coin cell powered wireless sensor. Although it was a transmit only protocol. Pretty well understood area - send less data, put the system to sleep for as long as feasible. http:/&#x

For mobile and desktop, sure 32 bit is fading, but embedded 32 bit is so far from obsolete. I don't know how you can even claim that when even 8 bit platforms still have a huge market share. ARM cortex-M (32 bit) has only recently been
