I don't think it's this simple. That interpretation of freedom of speech seems a bit literal. The point is that people should have the ability to voice their opinions, and have their voice heard if anyone wants to hear it. Since t

I'm not convinced. I think that gives discord and others an easy excuse to censor people or communities they don't want on their platform, but I just don't buy that their real objection was rudeness. This is an effective excu

Funny you should mention that, I'm watching that too, and I can't wait until that's to the point where it's just as easy and seamless to get something up and running in django or a similar framework, while also having al

That's really interesting, I should look into that pattern, maybe it can be applied elsewhere (I have to maintain a vb6 application at work, and I'm not terribly interested in doing that anymore). Yeah working with redux sucks in

I see your point, and I agree it's definitely not a good solution to some problems. But I think it can be very productive if your constraints allow you to use it.

I can't really speak to all the technologies you mentioned, but some of the other apps I maintain are in python using django. It is also "batteries included", and does give you more tools out of the box for backend work. It&#

The fact is, the Javascript ecosystem is unmatched when it comes to very quickly creating frontend applications. Maybe another set of tools would have been better, but that doesn't really matter. This set of tools is what everyone uses

Yeah I was surprised to see it didn't use pandoc for exports. I'm not sure why, and all these issues about exporting to word wouldn't exist.

Didn't mean to pick on xfce, I haven't used it in a couple years to be fair. But when I did, it just didn't fit my workflow that well. For example, I'm used to pressing command+space and getting system-wide search for al

I'll never understand this. It's like people who swear by xfce. Both are borderline unusable to me, but gnome certainly isn't in that category, despite its bugs.

But what about users who actually prefer some web applications, like the user you responded to? To them, the web application is the hammer. I mean really who gets to decide which is better besides the user?

Everyone who is talking about how the route the industry took with SPAs was just a silly mistake, and that we should go back to the good old days of PHP are forgetting that at the end of the day the most important thing is to choose the bes
