"Socialist" nations also have income tax. The topic of discussion is replacing income tax with a larger sales tax.

Even if the rate is variable, sales taxes are still regressive. Poor people spend a much larger % of their income on goods compared to rich people. For me, personally, my sales tax would need to be around 1,000% (for every dollar I spend, I

Concepts like “innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt” are more about protecting people’s individual liberties than establishing a baseline about whether or not to believe something.

Is there any evidence Hans Niemann was suspended specifically for cheating? I’ve seen multiple unsubstantiated claims, but no source that definitively states he was suspended for cheating.

Wind resistance increases with the square of speed so going faster than “normal” speed, i.e. the speed they use when calculating range, leads to dramatically less range.

Many Canadian websites end in .ca. This website ends in .com. Not a foolproof method, but likely better than a random guess.

> No we don’t. Asbestos and others became such an issue because people didn’t notice the damage they inferred it after the fact based on exposure. Isn’t every observation just a causal inference after the fact? Look, you’re free to attem

My point was more that if there was really significant damage being done, then you’d be able to provide a better example than lightbulbs. For instance, a hurricane taking down a street light also destroys the bulb, and a whole lot more. Eve

Is it really preventable though? Isn’t it pretty much a basic law of nature that resources will be consumed maximally? If you increase the amount of available energy, it too will be used up until a point where people on the fringes are left

Why was Windows a better choice than Android? You mentioned that Windows had “the best shot of competing with Android”, but why was that desirable? The adage, if you can’t beat them, join them comes to mind.

I have no moral qualms about gambling. I just hate that every single advertisement (in the NHL at least) is for sports betting. It’s just nauseating to see so many ads for the same topic, especially when I have no interest in sports betting

Ok, so industrial users buy hydrogen. And then how do you convert the currency they give you into energy when you need it later? If you're just trying to find an economic use for excess power, you might as well mine Bitcoin.

> The solution is the same: use overproduction to produce hydrogen or for desalination plants. Does anywhere actually do this? Storing hydrogen at scale seems insanely difficult and desalinating water wouldn't let you use the energy
