This should be the gameplay in Civilization, instead of the thing where you train and archaeologist who goes to excavate magically known locations. Excavation of tunnels and such should just come with a chance of finding artifacts, but it o

Why did Alex Honnold climb Taipei 101 when he could just take the elevator? I know the analogy is not perfect but it's the kind of project that wasn't feasible for a single dev before LLMs so now it just seems like a fun thing to

This is the opposite of my experience. Safeway is usually the most expensive, more than the Kroger/Albertsons chains. The only place that competed with Walmart on price for me was WinCo.

Yeah that makes sense but if growth dictates another tunnel... And it takes another 60 years, your capital expense starts to look a lot like an operating expense. Not to mention one of the big stated purposes of this tunnel is actually to f

My immediate thought is at what point does desalination tech + clean energy reach the crossover where building a 60 mile tunnel over 60 years not make sense? It feels like very soon, and coastal cities can stop relying on hinterland reservo

The problem is lack of information at time of purchase, in both cases. It's so onerous to figure out what these products are doing that people give up. Same in the airline case. If any of the airlines actually provided better servic

Now someone tell me the equivalent of P.G. Wodehouse and I'll check it out. Wodehouse feels like the lighthearted successor of Austen, focused more on the comedy and farcical plots, than serious romance. Funny enough, I started readi

Pretty simple really, we're basically all [1] addicted to smartphones, so we basically all [1] advocated for this. After all, to admit it was a problem for our kids, we'd have to also admit it could be a problem for ourselves. Eve

Yes, I don't rebase, I only merge. We squash commits on merge of MR/PR anyway, so there is no value to rebase for us AFAICT. It also removes a ton of gnarly situations you can find yourself in when you mess up a rebase somehow.

The right solution here is to take the telecom tax invoice, edit it in a PDF editor to say Telecom bill, and send it back. The process is stupid enough that this will work 95% of the time. Is it fraud? No, not really, I'd argue. You
