As an advocate for nuclear power, it amazed me that the UK gave EDF the go-ahead for Hinkley C given the Finnish experience (11 billion euros, about 3x the original budget and getting on for 10 years late) with the same reactor design. At l

For those of us supporting more than a few legacy apps, use the oldest version (7 in our case) because then there's less chance of things going wrong (depends, of course, whether you bill per support call or a fixed annual fee).

Thanks, I didn't know that was an even older version version of the same claim. I imagine that's one of the reasons for the developers being tired of the same (incorrect in their view) claims. The only remaining issue with Palemoo

There's always Palemoon [0] (for anyone who likes the classic firefox interface). I've been using it for years (and have donated), plus I like the fact it can be installed just by unpacking a tarball/zip file (as well as the

Rather agree with the article, having done a lot of trial and error on earbuds - fit really does matter. Good fit actually seems more important to the sound than the underlying speaker tech, also determines how long they stay comfortable f

Power is volts x amps. The more amps, the thicker the wires need to be (volts are irrelvant). So to minise weight/wire size, use the highest voltage possible (and thus the lowest current). Losses are purely related to current (I^2*R) s

Minecraft is a game played mostly by kids (minors). Tracking their behaviour, finding out what they try (even if just looking for ways to game the system) is pretty useful info.

London was a lot more, ah, interesting, back then. There were certainly a lot more areas where it wasn't wise to walk around by yourself (that is, in areas where you didn't fit in). Still are, but it's nothing like as excitin

It's amazing that modern software techniques are so slow that speeding up rainbow braces is necessary (let alone worthy of an article). Get off my lawn (while I water it with my tears).

Using a 'JMP SHORT' was pretty much reflexive; a good reason to do it was it not being in range was sort of a code smell back in the day. But chips were simpler back then, and a programmer could often leave compiler code in the du
