I don't know how its actually implemented, but normally to enable AMT you have to have both a compatible motherboard and processor. Intel calls it VPRO. Most desktop consumer boards do not have this feature, but quite a few of the i5 p

I'm wondering when we might see regulation, at least in the US, regarding certain gambling-like activities some games have (not just mobile). What I mean is some games have you build a team of characters. They'll have an in-game s

The cool thing is that David Brevik didn't just work at Gazillion on Marvel Heroes, he actually played it. And he still does. He and his wife stream on twitch and play every week as they've done for years now. Every now and again

geez, $300 for 2Gbps seems expensive to me. I can get 10Gb for $399 in Minneapolis.

> disallowing ECC platform use on common consumer (read: not-Xeon) CPUs this hasn't really been true since Haswell. Now even low-end Celerons and Pentiums support it.

They don't have a review of the OnHub yet, but http://www.smallnetbuilder.com does some pretty good thorough review of consumer router/aps.

Right now I have one of them with pfsense and its openvpn server running. But that one was upgraded to an Intel i5-3470T so it pulls about ~25W. We went with that cpu for it's AES stuff but it turns out that pfsense (or maybe its freeb

My point was simply a comparison, yes I should have provided my depth. But at $200 for a premium consumer grade router you are definitely within the realm of a nice pfsense (or alternative) system.

I wouldn't really call it a full desktop. Intel DQ77KB mini-itx, lga1155 with dual Intel nics is what we use for $100 off Amazon. Pair it with a cheap Celeron and some used laptop memory off ebay. At the wall ~15W.

At $200 you're in the price range of just building yourself a pfsense box.

I-19 in southern Arizona has its distance signs in meters and kilometers as part of a test during the '70s. There have been plans to change it for a number of years but local opposition has stalled it. https://en.wikipedia.o

I read an interesting book called "Rare Earth: Why Complex Life is Uncommon in the Universe" that attempts to tackle why we haven't found evidence of any other life. It was written in 2000 so I guess it's rather old now

It's kinda strange that he spends so much time documenting his old-school linux admin rep, then really complains about building from source and not being able to just apt-get upgrade. Building from source is the way we used to do it.

Author doesn't get into it, but the quote at the top from a HN comment briefly touches on why I went back to college. I just graduated at 41 years old. There's not a clean, easy single reason why. But it involves some bits of prid

If the goal is just to get spam, don't do this from an IP you care about. I ran a relay for awhile and got added to blacklists, although I did only manage to find one website that blocked me purely on that basis (scn.sap.com).

I don't know. But hinging the argument on bitcoin and decentralization seems short-sighted and letting yourself fall into the same traps as the guys who have been busted.

This is no longer true either. Intel has consumer desktop Celeron, Pentium, and i3 series chips that support ECC. The i3's in particular are fairly popular with FreeNAS users. http://ark.intel.com/search/advanced?s
