Aye, but on newer mac keyboards it lacks the symbol. So you have that funny symbol in the menus, and you're supposed to divine (you're a new user, remember) that it means "option" with no visual similarity.

I agree with your critique about the community attitude, so I sympathize with your position. However, speaking as a non-Haskell learner with a Haskell writing friend, I don't think it's fair to dismiss the notion entirely. Haskell

To argue the case of the middle ground, it's perfectly possible to give the impression of a well animated app without breaking HTML's layout and constraints everywhere. Simple, non-obtrusive animations can give your interface a to

I feel like the punishment should be appropriate to the crime though. Leave jail for the criminally dangerous, those whose freedom would be a physical danger to others. (Murderers, rapists, etc.) Fraud? If it's money that was gained, t

For my actual day to day work? The latter, by far. I can get nearly all of my computing done comfortably on a raspberry pi. Most of what I need to do involves remote terminals via SSH, which I can run on any toaster. I do own a desktop gami

The most infuriating thing is that when logging on to live.com or its friends, they hook the tab key. When you type in your email, then tab over the next field, it redirects underneath you. This infuriates me. It also really screws with p

I'm completely on board with ignoring IE at this point. Even Microsoft is through with it. With its declining market share and quickly expiring install base (Vista kicks the bucket next year, 7 in 2020) the benefit of mangling my codeb

This could not be more true. I'm of that very generation, went to an expensive technical school with no clue what I was getting myself into, and managed to flunk out in the first year. Never even considered that possibility, because hi

I don't think work ethic = value is ever going to go away to be honest. People will always value hard workers, and rightly so, because hard workers get things done and problem solved. However, I don't necessarily think that work e

Valve is very smartly building up a competing platform with Steam OS. Microsoft is trying really hard to position itself so that it can kill Win32; they backpedaled hard with Windows 10, but only because their own tech isn't there yet,

I think this is an amazing move for Microsoft. If they get the kinks worked out and get it working well on Windows Server, they'll have one platform that can run pretty much all the major enterprise software without virtualization. Tha

I was going to make some sensible argument about the value of the lessons being exposure to code, and removing the black box of mystery that most gadgets are to kids. But then I read the article... what on earth is this guy going on about?

That's actually not always true. Any application running on node.js is using the V8 engine as it's serverside backend, and might thusly be affected. There are also a handful of applications that do clientside encryption. (MEGA com
