Do you base your opinion of each side off of what you see on the internet? "On the internet, nobody knows you're a dog."

These are evdev based tools, not wayland tools. Personally the community around wayland seems to have some toxicity in it. That is the only thing I really took from the original post.

I'm already on 28.x/native comp. Is this branch really tested and working well enough without any performance regressions? I read the LWN article about this branch and it did not increase my confidence.

When I'm at my framebuffer terminal, I can either type 'startx' or 'sway'. If I go from typing 'startx' to typing 'sway' does that count as "switching to Wayland"?

What happened internally when you discovered that you were given a false severe grade CVE? I remember seeing many articles suggesting users uninstall VLC. https://nvd.nist.gov/vuln/detail/CVE-2019-13615

This thread has piqued my interest. I am curious if the people interested in distributed systems are closer to hobbyists or professionals using the ideas directly in their work. Distributed systems fans of HN, why are you reading about dist

If you take off the linux hobbyist blinders you will see that having to type in "apk add audacity" and getting a mobile unusable interface is a non-starter for 99% of people. Compare that to the experience of typing in to a search

A walled garden is a plus for most consumers. Especially non-technical consumers who want to download something and be sure it's not spyware that will brick their phone. If you want to be able to install anything you can buy a pinephon

I'd guess that basic income would encourage entrepreneurship in individuals with a high degree of self-actualization but not individuals with a low degree of self-actualization. Whether or not basic income itself would increase the deg

Intelligence is overrated. It's one piece of the puzzle. If we look for "one factor" that's responsible for success we are going to be searching for a long time. Income is a more robust metric because it is a somewhat na

How do you measure the sizes of these modules? I counted lines from source code and systemd pam code was a 1k-2k lines of C total and pam is 30k lines of C.

This is whataboutism. You can talk about other reasons for using firefox if you'd like (although you'd have to mention what those reasons are.) We're talking about privacy right now and firefox does not fit the bill.

Firefox sends everything you type in the address bar to google by default. Would you be able to tell the difference between stock firefox and stock chrome if all you saw was the fiddler session? I don't know, I haven't tried. I di
