Its a great bit of PR for those who fall for it. Otherwise its one of the dumbest things I've read in some time.

Amazon makes money, but it doesn't have margins worth a damn. That said, Ballmer's business acumen is questionable. If I wanted to be really snarky, I could say basically Ballmer is admiring them so much he tried to slice Microso

This is quite cool. I actually have worked from the opposite in that I've started taking more photos as reference for future drawings and paintings, which in some ways has reinvigorated my tendency towards inspiration from mundane obj

I think he's out of touch, period. He's at a stage where he seems to be saying things just to see if anyone bothers, and if they do, he rides them into additional PR. He's like the music industries answer to Bill Gates; he k

I used to check FM every morning for years as part of my ritual to look for "neat stuff" to install and play around with on my various boxen. It was great while it lasted. I worked at VA and a common form of watercooler talk in

VA as its initial raison d'etre went dead with the purging of the hardware division (disclosure, I am a biased bastard who worked at VA from 1998 - 2002 and have a deep romanticized attachment to the people and events of that period).

That was Trae and Co. Much as I liked the guy the "fame" he got went way to his head and his contributions were far short of his ambitions. He alienated a lot of folks with his constant demands for what would otherwise be perks fo

Realize that in making such "ethical" obligations, you invalidate the openness and the license will not be compatible with any FSF/OSI approved license scheme. Then of course there is the issue of enforcement.

I think that is only part of the answer. The Krita team is also a lot more compact and has a clearer, more internally defined end goal (it will be interesting to see what happens if its userbase explodes). Less of the glacial Debian-style p

I actually think this is great. I've enjoyed using Krita (even though its sometimes a PITA to get setup) and its rapidly surpassing everything GIMP spent a dozen years trying to pull off. Make it crossplatform and you have a BIG win.
