I would imagine in the US, the fifth amendment would protect you from having to name the driver.

Not that it's really relevant to any other animal, but you can train dogs using only love, positive reinforcement, and a stern voice. No physical punishment is necessary.

You're right -- 12.25 is nominal, not inflation-adjusted. But inflation was in the range of 1.5-2%, so even adjusted for inflation, the real return exceeds 10% any way to slice it. I'm not sure what your calculator is measuring -

Yea, but the racist origins are not an explanation why poll taxes are inherently unconstitutional. I feel like there's a step missing in the explanation.

Could go either way. If I were on the jury, it would hang. I'd be weeded out during jury selection, of course, but there are not a few people like me.

The S&P 500 returned 12.25% last year. Unless you're throwing money away, you have to count dividends, too. https://dqydj.com/2016-sp-500-return/

Yes? It's a finite resource that has to be allocated somehow. Having to have space for parking is a negative externality of owning a car. Make owning a car more expensive and you'll see fewer people driving, taking up parking s

Yea, I don't really think realtime bidding is worthwhile for these kinds of transactions. It makes bothering with it too much trouble. Rather, I think a municipality setting prices by fiat to be something that mostly gives the an appr

Presumably some governmental authority. Some realtime bidding system would be nice, but that may or may not realistic. I think a realistic goal is that the prices should be set such that there's always 1-2 spots available in any give

Just have metered parking everywhere and have the cost per unit time reflect the local demand for parking. Now you've eliminated an externality.

I think a good definition of what a startup is would consider rate of growth (now and projections into the near future) rather than length of time since inception.

I find that without trying particularly hard or trying to find deals or optimize my shopping, cooking is slightly less expensive than eating out at cheap places. The real gain is total control over my diet and the way things are made. F

I think Microsoft is 2-3 years too early (or maybe that's the plan?). The technology just isn't there yet. Headesets need to double the resolutions on the displays and increase the frame rate by 50%.

That would require someone on the stock image company's payroll who knows something about code. That costs money. How much are you willing to pay for articles with good stock photos?

You're too paranoid. I think it's more easily explained by the company executives acting in self-interested ways to get participation up so that the 401(k) plans don't run afoul of anti-discrimination rules.

Here's an example: Let's say you have a card game with N players playing off a 52-card deck. Since log_2(52!) is less than 226, then you can randomly shuffle a deck of 52 cards with, say, 512 random bits. The dealer picks a rand
