I have similar issues with my ultra. Have put it on a laptop, but my desk Setup with my multiple desktop computers is usb-c video based ( kind of a poor man’s kvm) , and asahi doesn’t do usb-c video yet

Man… they absolutely do not care. An Apple engineer made the boot loader for Mac open in the first place.

I thought that’s pretty much the way all technology goes. Just seems silly to take promotion an operating system that’s essentially a lot of config files atop existing work seriously from someone that made a popular web development framewor

Yeah that’s exactly it. Seems he’s manufacturing a lot of culture war bullshit just to bring attention to a less than interesting distro. If it wanted to be the “hyperland“ distro as so many distros are (built to bring one de/wm to use

What exactly is special about rolling a custom arch in this instance? Like, why does this get so much attention? Do web developers really care about what DHH does that much? Like, I get it if thats the case. Say, if Chris Lattner or Andrej

Thats pretty good, then he should have made a toolkit for building and rolling your own badass distro and not a "opinionated" "omakase" system that claims to solve all of deskop linux while personally mocking a lot of pe

I am a little unsure why folks keep getting convinced one new distro or another is gonna come and finally solve the Linux desktop adoption problem? The fundamental problem linux distros have is that they dont agree on a fundamental set of l

The fact that you use fediverse and framework as some catchall for future innovation tells me you are really missing my point. I am talking more about on the level of things like the migration of time spent watching television to time spent

Enshitification doesn’t end. It collapses under its own weight as people get tired and instead stop using things or switch to some newer radically different paradigm.

Up to the M2 series are supported pretty much fully. There are a few exceptions, but it does work quite well. I'd need a good reason to grab an intel/amd laptop just for running linux.

From what I understand, the based M1/M2s are closer to the battery life you'd want and still quite good for a linux laptop. USB DP is a real bummer though.

It's not that bad, pop ups every few months. I just buy older stock or refurbished these days. M1s and M2s are still good enough for me. Recently picked up a refurbished M1 16" because I wanted a larger screen in bed / on the

I’m weighing two bad outcomes here. I think it’s a lot worse if there’s only one browser for the entire web than it is for there to be one browser for one singular platform.

This user choice argument isn’t what makes safari monopolist. It’s that for some countries iOS has majority share these days, and safari is pushed on users through it. That’s why I was kinda trying to say it is anti-monopoly monopoly. If Ap

You're never going to have an app with plugin ability on iOS because that goes against the ios terms of service. It can be seen as shipping a competing appstore.

It's a really huge deferent from chromium reaching 90%+ browser share. So yes, it is in fact an anti-monopoly browser. iOS isn't even at majority market share in most places in the world.

This is not entirely accurate. Those devices will receive security updates for quite some time. By the time they stop getting them, they will easily be candidates for recycling by Apple.
