This is pretty cool. I might get one if I’m convinced it’s better than my quest3s display link.

Nope: https://ark.intel.com/content/www/us/en/ark/products/27191/i... You needed an agp video card of some kind. You're making a false comparison. Once again they clearly made tradeof

No ones saying “poor apple.” The pricier models don’t run the same soc. With the air you’re getting the same constraints as an iPad. They made tradeoffs.

It’s interesting because the whole M# line started with a smart phone and built a pc out of that. As a result it has some unfortunate restrictions that aren’t there when you build a machine out of capable yet pretty clunky intel hardware. I

Citing xcodeghost as a big smoking gun of Apple malfeasants is absurd. Apple handled that whole situation really well considering it came from a bunch of downloader websites where the attacker had modified clang and Xcode.

I can understand some perspectives of the Apple-defending crowd. Apple being the popular yet closed-end-to-end platform experience does kind of provide a level of balance in the industry that wouldn’t exist otherwise. I personally think it’

So, the buildin stdlib types afaict use arc only to figure out if the instance has a single unique reference. Internally it is a value type. If a variable on one of these types is modified then the existence of more than one reference is us

This is only partly correct. It’s generally encouraged to use value types (or the up coming move only types) unless you actually want the reference semantics or you are interoping with objc apis on Darwin. If you ever watch talks from folks

I know a lot of folks that get this by avoiding device upgrades. If you’re living off of an iPhone 7 with an old os and a brand new battery it’s amazing the things you can’t get addicted to while also still being able to have the modern tex

This is spot on. I wish there were a way to reconcile how annoying boring and opinionated the mastodon experience is with the threads experience that is also really really badly tuned albeit sort of neat in its design language. The threads

When the core compiler infrastructure generalizes more of the GPU support bits, it means you can pay less for hardware because the software stack is less coupled with one vendor’s hardware.

That's great, but then don't complain to your community for creating more distros? Thats the thing they are good at, because they have been given great tools to do so.

That's the problem. The Linux way of distributing apps is wrong for trying to compete with the other consumer platforms. The ChromeOS or electron style of doing things is another story though.

I suspect the biggest issue with electron is that it leads to lots of devs packaging various V8 versions individually with their app. On windows they have been trying to get devs to switch to something called WebView2 where the OS provides
