Peak on a decent traffic site will be roughly 2x-3x the average. 5x-20x would be a blog that gets 10 visitors a day and after being posted on news.yc gets 100 visitors.

So worst case they will be doing 4 req/s instead of 2. I know what you're trying to say, but at Quora's numbers, as OP said, it truly is irrelevant.

You don't really appreciate Python until you try and program in something like Java again. The following code is readable and I have required a variation of it in a program before: sorted([ord(c) for c in set('letters in this

The very definition of hacking is using something in a way it was not meant to be used. Last time I checked, the top left of this site still said 'Hacker News'. If you find hacks stupid, why are you here?

Either you do it correctly (as in list manipulation, in place) or do it pythonically. That code is somewhere in between. The pythonic version would be s.replace(c, '')

Also, I prefer to be able to know what the software on my computer is actually doing, especially when it comes to internet communications.

There is no reason to keep using a (visibly) empty toner cartridge, in fact, it can cause 2 issues: a) When the cartridge has no toner, there is still a 'buffer' of toner that is in the developer roller that transfers the toner to the drum.

Not that I doubt what you said, but the 'due diligence' comment reminds me of this: http://www.reddit.com/r/WTF/comments/89kto/student_finds_cel...

Yes, being event based helps a lot, but the reason nginx is faster than other event based webservers is that it tries very very hard to add as little overhead as possible; For example not copying memory around unless absolutely neccessary.

I don't understand when people go crazy with their servers after getting mentioned on the social web because of the load. It's short lived, no need to panic, just make the page static. wget http://www.mysite.com/page-being-hit-all-the

An online TOS is not worth anything unless you can prove to a judge that the user did indeed read and agree to that exact version of the TOS. For example, a user can edit the html, print it out, and claim that was what he agreed to wh

Most people (even geeks) use google to find a site they don't remember the exact url for, and google does a very good job at finding that url, regardless if there is a .com with the same name. Eg. searching for 'python' gets you python.org

Computers were still a niche tool 40 years after their invention. I think that once people realise applications that apply to the mainstream they will become as cheap and as widespread as inkjet printers.

I am awake 30 hours more a week than on the regular 8 hour sleep. By the time I'm 50, I've have been conscious 5 years longer than most people. I don't think you'd meet any older person who won't trade 20 of their older years to be 5 years

Yep, a process per core. The beauty is that since your app has to be written to be multiprocess capable then you can also extend past one computer when the need arises. You pay a memory tax overhead though.
