If that strategy worked, spammers could use it in gmail to void spam filter utility. I'm sure the volume of legitimate requests would help drown that noise.

Don't really think that makes sense. Ad placement, site design, ad relevancy etc... all dominate the reasons of why people click ads. I don't think you're going to get much information about content relevancy out of the CTR as you can't hol

It's seems to me like an explicit "Report Spam" button would help. The problem with SearchWiki & "Remove result" is that they have many other influencing factors as to why people would click those buttons. People are pretty good at reco

It seems to me that Wikileaks is disruptive to Governments in the way that Napster was disruptive to the Music Industry. While Wikileaks may not survive in the mid term, I believe what it represents may have far reaching, long term conseque

The whole resize thing is fraught with problems. It was one of the main reason I moved to Rackspace Cloud, but it's just way too unreliable. I'm too scared to use it on any mission critical servers due to unpredictable downtime. If you're u

I moved all my services from EC2 to Rackspace Cloud about 2 years ago, but I'm regretting it. Rackspace Cloud does one thing well - small instances have great value CPU & local IO performance. If your app is CPU or local IO bound, split

"In my opinion the hard problem in machine learning has moved from prediction to characterization." Is this because prediction has been "solved" or because characterization is currently more commercially useful?

That's pretty cool. I like the method chaining. There's definitely a need for a 'great' PHP ORM. I've been rolling my own for a couple of years since I've never been satisfied with what's out there. Here's the kind of syntax/style I use on

On the surface, this follow up post is pretty damning http://ltgenpanda.tumblr.com/post/1404511358/second-confirma... The pattern of diggs from the suspect accounts stopped not long after digg was notified of the blog post and before it w

FYI if you're still looking into this, this comment helped me http://codebutler.com/firesheep#comment_5843350 I have filevault turned on. Moving the binary out of my home folder (and adding a symbolic link) solved the problem.

Same setup. Sidebar shows for me after selecting it from the View -> Sidebar menu, however it pops up with a message that says "Run --fix-permissions first." Not sure where I'm supposed to run this flag.

Thought I'd post this here. Another day in our struggle of working on an increasingly hostile ecosystem for Twitter app developers. We were also IP blocked without notice twice in the 2 weeks beforehand. I had to send a support request to g

All the article says is this; If I went into a casino picked a number on a roulette wheel and won straight away, you would be amazed. If I then did it a second & third time in succession, you would be incredulous. You might wonder if I

If this holds for more situations, I guess the conclusion I would draw is that spilt testing should be done as far down the funnel as possible to generate the most return.

I live in Australia and have been planning to migrate to the US in the near future. However this article has genuinely made me reconsider. I knew there was an incarceration problem in the US, but I didn't realise it was this bad.

Why would someone sit on something like this for 7 years? I can't think of any reasonable explanation. Facebook's lawyers also seem completely unprepared. How could Mark not have seen this coming? There's got to be an interesting story here

Not at all. If you start with a dedicated server you can't offload peak traffic as easily. Always going with a virtual server allows you to scale on the fly and cuts costs when not in use.

I think the split is a fairly good indication of how rational someone is. People who consider themselves atheist tend to act more rationally in the bayesian sense. I'd like to see a split between atheists and agnostics, particularly because

Seems unlikely. While music may be beneficial to a collective, a collective would not be able exist without some form of communication. It appears that the generation and appreciation of music relies on a number of genes that seem unlikely
