I thought Kakoune was an interesting experiment: an attempt to embrace vi-like modal editing, but keep it consistent, and go all-in on it.

It would be interesting to develop Xi and rust-analyzer in tandem, and see how much of an IDE Xi could become while leaving it still basically a text editor.

A couple of suggestions: Immutable Data Structures. And perhaps something that captures the kind of type inference Haskell/Elm/etc. can do. Not sure if they're big enough to compete with something like B-trees :-)

Thanks! Always love Peter's stuff. We actually have a perfectly viable working system internally. We're just (always) considering alternatives :-)

Get in touch with 4am (@a2_4am) and DiskBlitz (@diskblitz) on Twitter — although they're doing it on Apple II disks, there's some pretty sophisticated tooling, and it should theoretically be able to read C64 disks too. 4am also ha

I'm curious about this, because at Square we maintain our own homegrown log aggregation system, and it's not really a core competency. While a lot of our logging needs seem like they would be fulfilled by this system — because w

For a long time, there were really useful things that were available only in nightly, I believe. The Rust team has also done an unprecedented job of balancing stability and improvement.

You can do merkle-tree-signing and other clever things with cryptography to provide auditability without needing any kind of distributed consensus via proof of work/stake/etc. so I think the flowchart could have a couple more &quo

Double OHHH. Just realized upon reading your comment that I'd read the title/article the same way, and then forgotten. I guess “forking the D compiler” naturally leads to the source-forking context. I guess I've learned to

This discussion thread is hilarious (and adorable) to me. Makes me feel old (in a good way) that there are folks for whom the default meaning of "fork" is git(hub), rather than the unix fork syscall.

So right! It's been a career-long joke to me to contrast the language in the merger press release about immediate “synergies” and “efficiencies” with the “com.oldcompanyname.foo.bar” in the code 15 years later. Basically the “immediate

As a child raised on 80s 8-bit computers, and a fan of emulation, I love what WASM does for in-browser emulators. You can run an enormous amount of Apple II, Commodore 64, etc. software on archive.org, all compiled using emscripten.

It's not just because it's shiny. Rust happens to (a) be a great fit for the parts of WebAssembly that have been implemented so far (partly because it doesn't need GC), and (b) have done a really good job of building WebAssem

For me, the big problem with this kind of musical/theatrical production is that you're doing one thing — provoking excited emotions and feelings in a group context, just as would happen at a well-produced secular concert, or a mov

Moved back to Atlanta after five years at YouTube in SF to be close to family and afford a house. Discovered that Square has an office here, saving me from a descent back into Corporate IT. Haven't looked back. We're hiring :-)
