If you're interested in this kind of thing, check out BundleWrap, an under-appreciated gem of configuration management tools. I've been using it as I set up my Raspberry Pi Kubernetes cluster, and it's a joy. https:/&#x

Hmmm. I knew I was being a bit of a smartass with, “and thus should know better”, but I figured I mediated that in the second sentence, where I presumed they know what they're doing. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I was a little surprised that Vite, which depends on esbuild and thus should know better, is written in Javascript. I presume this is a considered choice, and that what Vite does is unlikely to be on the critical path for edit/build&#x

Suggestion: shave off two bits, and switch between the variants in the "A bit of fun" section: https://francoisbest.com/posts/2021/hashvatars#a-bit-of-fun

A quick read of the article leads me to believe that the AIs were inventing language tokens of their own. What makes you think it was trained on human data?

One of my hobbies when working at YouTube was to periodically search the monorepo to find new copies of the key, and try to refactor code so there was just one implementation in each of C++, Java, Python, Go

I like the idea of please.build. But I'd like it more if it used Starlark :-( https://github.com/thought-machine/please/issues?q=is%3Aissu... https://github.com/thought-machine/please

Makes sense. You should integrate TailScale too, so you don't need to shunt traffic through the boundary nodes

Looks great! A couple of questions: Can you view logs of SSH sessions after the fact? Can you live-view a session? Can you require a pairing authorization like with https://github.com/square/sudo_pair ?

Raph's previous post (linked in the first paragraph) goes into more detail than you could imagine on the options and differences and tradeoffs involved…

I'm sure the holiday and other demand spikes are also extremely expensive. By handling the steady-state deliveries, Amazon is again draining away all the profitable, predictable deliveries, and outsourcing the expensive spikes. It'

Unless Google is noticing my IP and doing user tracking in Firefox Private tabs, it's not user tracking. It's just understanding the query better.

I couldn't get this to happen with Google — every result was for typescript. I tried using duckduckgo and every result but one was porn. Guess I can put off that decision to switch to ddg a bit longer…

My father-in-law has FTD. I was just a few paragraphs into the article before I started wondering. Search the NYTimes for "Frontotemporal Dementia", and you'll find several stories, all similar :-(

It may be a question of taste and personality. I absolutely love Lex's style. I thought the Jim Keller interview was fantastic.

I'm sad that ESR has not (yet) responded to Nigel Tao's comments on the first thread, which pretty much capture all my thoughts from reading the blog post exactly.

Hmmm. I was assuming this was just changing interpretations of the same underlying 8 bits. No? Edit: yeah, “Casting between two integers of the same size (e.g. i32 -> u32) is a no-op” ( https://doc.rust-lang.org/reference&

I noticed that both this and pcwalton's CPU emulation simply perform the operation, and increment the cycle count. I'm curious: are the cycle-accurate reads and writes (and false reads and writes -- see https://github.c

It was mentioned in the README, and stood out to me as surprising (surely you don't need unsafe to cast from unsigned to signed bytes?)
