No, not necessarily. If it lowers the humidity, then it can take less energy to heat the house after venting. So it can actually save energy.

In the 4th paragraph he describes “the arc of a stone falling to earth” as an exponential function. Is that true? I always thought it was quadratic.

I like that you show L systems for many of the fractals in Benoit Mandelbrot’s 1982 book The Fractal Nature of Geometry. It’s a beautiful book and worth checking out.

Lots of people are pointing out inconveniences with this decimal time system which are the same inconveniences I find with other metric systems. You can’t divide by 3, 4, 6, or 8 easily in this case.

I’d say it’s less random than the headline makes it seem. It’s a random value with mean of 7500 and standard deviation of 3000 pulled from a normal distribution. And, it’s multiplied by the daily volume. So, there may be some thought here.

I think the calendar problem is an entirely different subject that would warrant it's own article. I suppose what you could do is look up the calendar for each historical report of the event and then convert it to a single calendar. h

I thought it was illegal to use an antenna to harvest RF energy. But, I guess not in these situations at least. All I can find from the FCC on this is https://www.fcc.gov/media/over-air-reception-devices-rule Can anyon

I grew up listening to these guys with my dad on the radio. They called themselves Click and Clack. I never knew when I was a kid that I’d be able to watch these guys live streamed from my internship at the MIT Media Lab years later.

I bought a yellow lab grown diamond for my wife's wedding ring and with a jewelers loupe you can see the flaws in it. It looks like dirt.

If you buy a certified diamond they will come with a laser engraving that indicates it was lab grown. They can tell if it was lab grown with special equipment and/or the chain of purchase. So, I guess you'd have to believe the cer

While people in the 1850s probably would not have been able to fix or turn the iPad on they would have been able to examine it. They could have taken it apart and looked at the various materials and perform physical and chemical tests on th

The first section on randomness seems to imply that all you need to know is information. That if you knew all the data about the weather that you could predict the weather. I think it's more complicated than that. Even if you knew the

The video and graphics presented with this are really well done. I think it helps educate people when you show them well-made visuals like this. It's a good way to show information in a short period of time without a lot reading requir

I'm not sure if this helps answer your question, but coverage is automatic if you have your funds in an FDIC insurance bank (most all of them) and if it's in a normal savings type account and then any amount 250k or less.

This. The U.S. measurement systems work pretty well! And, we use metric where metric works well. The U.S. systems are sized to daily life and are based on 12 or powers of 2, which you could argue are more fundamental bases of measurement th

One of the arguments for Oumuamua being more than just a "rock" was its detected dimension. If I recall correctly, it was very long and skinny and thus not very rock-like in a traditional sense. I think Avi Loeb put forth the idea

I agree that these ads are showing unsafe use. That said, you can only (mostly) hurt yourself with a kayak. A car can hurt other people in many ways. It's the same story with a bike.
