We are pretty serious about the web, infrastructure, and platforms in general, and we use Python. As does Dropbox, Google, Facebook, Twitter, etc. I don't think concurrency is great in Python, but you're living in the wrong world

Forcing a dependency on people isn't always the friendliest thing, especially when it comes to version, especially in Python. We don't use gevent anywhere else, and while I'm certain it has a better implementation, it's

We had at it 50ms on the previous setup, though I wish we I knew why that value was used. Likely it was a default with the Chef cookbook we forked off of, or we read something that convinced us at the time it was a good idea.

David from Sentry here. We actually knew about the problem with delay and had been working to improve it. We were a couple days away from failing over to the new hardware (safely) and unfortunately we didn't have any early warnings in

It's very hard to do this kind of thing by slurping logs (and is generally why ELK isn't considered a replacement for these tools). The first thing applications like Haystack try to solve is context. While I can't speak for H

My personal favorite is Highcharts, but it's a paid solution. Otherwise generally people build things on top of D3 these days. jQuery's Flot is also an easy entry tool for charts, but it's not as fancy out of the box.

Always great to see the love for Sentry! We have definitely looked for inspiration from workflows in places like GitHub over the years. I recall when we first built Sentry and there wasn't really anything else like it out there. Probab

The best example I can give is that logs (seemingly unconfigurable?) would post to a 'private' gist. Private is a misnomer as it's just obscurity in the URL. Additionally long term we didn't want to rely on external serv

It has SPOF on database/queue. You could run distinct sets of them though, and if one goes down you just use the other's API.

If you think introducing Rust (as an example) solves these kinds of problems you are sorely mistaken. Languages can make it easier for some things, but they're not a magical fix all. If it weren't this problem it would be somethin

We handle rate limiting with iptables, nginx, and Redis. Redis is the final state, but our goal is to make a sustainable and fast rate limiting solution which we can actually report metrics on. When things get dropped in iptables for exam

Almost the entire post assumes you're not using it for durability. It's about making tradeoffs so the use of SQL can scale. If you want to be semantic, ACID will never be performant and scalable. The use of SQL on getsentry.com

There's two things to consider here: 1) Sentry is not designed to replace logging therefor things like syslog will never achieve the same result. Sentry is explicitly for catching outliers and TCP is the only method able to store it&#x

Super excited about CORS and sourcemaps on all of the CDNs. Once all vendors get onboard with reasonable native exception tracebacks life is going to be so much better. Still a long ways to go, but great to see people making progress.

To maximum the use of a node. If you cant use all of the CPU because you don't have enough memory, than the node (at peak times) is wasteful.

I'm not using uwsgi as a router, and the speed of the requests isnt the issue. If for example, you randomly routed to a bunch of tornado servers that were overloaded/slow serving requests, you'd hit the same issue as that pos
