I think the premise is flawed -- the idea that using our PC should be a static experience where we minimise movement of the body. The same thing leads to keyboard fanatics trying to get all typing from the fingers without moving their wrist

Even better, look at WITH, or CREATE TEMPORARY VIEW AS. Then the planner can make optimisations to the overall query. That is assuming you use your "temporary" only once.

More than just SPF, DKIM and DMARC; mails still get silently discarded if you come from an IP address with a poor reputation. For this reason most of the large VM hosting providers will work but not give great results.

But that misses my point; the bug is that as a developer it's too easy to not write the correct check -- like exactly this one. The library function presented to most developers (especially a novice one) should reflect the most comm

Yes, the reality is a chair is very personal, there's no "one size fits all" no matter how much $$ or how good the warranty, or how available the spare parts. I think perhaps it's good to temper the enthusiasm of a lot o

The frustrating and unnecessary thing is the trend to completely intertwine permissions policy policy with the API. If I can't play a sound, just make it browser feature -- let the web page call the APIs continue as normal, mute the ta

Trouble with extra layers, there's a point where it results in complexity. Which, in my experience, is more likely to be the root cause of a security problem. I'm not saying this little demo is a disaster or anything. But for exam

The trouble with this threads is they straddle a gaping chasm between complete delusion, or amazing trolling. Just imagine if stuff was like this though and computing were more 'analogue' -- each of those 15 layers of JavaScript

Interesting to see that screenshot of the old IE as it was the first time we started seeing toolbar buttons that didn't have a static border to show they were a button. You had to hover the mouse to know that it was clickable.

Yes, you can do an incredible amount of very useful stuff with ALSA and it's asoundrc files. Sadly that logic is quite opaque, poorly documented, and produces mysterious error messages or, worse, no error at all.

Is there a "rootless" implementation of Wayland compositor for X? If Wayland is just the protocol, this should be very possible; and perhaps it would have eased some of this transition.
