Whole-house air filtering costs me around 100-200 watts depending on filter state. It runs continuously roughly from the end of June to mid-November (particulates season).

Because of the cognitive burden of trying to optimize and work around ludicrously high rates with changing windows. It's why I cling to my outdated tiered plan - I just don't want to let yet another thing steal my attention. Bakin

I'm literally missing one of my exterior walls and have been unable to repair it properly because getting permits through NIMBY municipalities is slow and painful by design. I've done my best to tarp over the hole and abandon and

I grew up in homes built in 1975 and 1995, both of which have no gas hookups. They're great homes. But now that I'm living in California, electricity is so expensive and time-of-use so annoying that I can't imagine electrific

I borrowed (actually traded; swapping with my truck) a ~2016 Prius for a month and hated driving it. Merging is slow; I ended up flooring it and only reaching ~50 mph by the end of the onramp. Bay area ramps are, however, very short. Try th

You can convince the i3 to believe it's a European car which increases the range extender's utility dramatically. You can unlock more fuel as well as have the generator turn on whenever you want (as opposed to at only very low SOC

I typically use whatever I have laying around. Right now I've gone atypical since I currently have a 10 gbps symmetric connection and my leftover hardware isn't quite fast enough to route it.

I know! All sunglasses are polarized the same way. Gadgets seem to not be consistently designed to work with that polarization and review sites don't tell you. Phones are often diagonally polarized to work around this regardless of lan

Ditto; I only buy wireless hardware that can run openwrt on the day that I buy it. I may not flash it on that day, but I like to know that I can. My router is an x86 machine running opnsense.

Before we get that deep down on monitor tech, I want review sites to tell me whether I can use the monitor/tablet/phone/laptop with sunglasses.

A symmetric gigabit with unlimited transit isn't terribly small though. And the super-awesome side tail of residential service continues to march forward. My own home connection is symmetric 10 gbps.

I'm actually glad that they haven't overhauled the UI. It would be great if they made tiny improvements, like making the font size and color defaults more pleasant. Deep blue on black as the default plot is less than stellar. Also

It's a pretty incremental and small opportunity, but one worth seizing nonetheless. SiC devices have a better figure of merit (Qg * Rds) at high voltages than Si devices. The lower gate charge (Qg) means you can switch them more quickl

Paypal doesn't, however. I wanted to switch bank accounts associated with PayPal and just... couldn't. That account is now dead, and I've switched to carrying a checkbook with me to settle up dinner with friends.

I love watching the QEMU ecosystem develop. I use it for running a handful of VMs on a host server: a Windows machine to run my label printers and their terrible software, opnsense to be my router, and then a couple test beds that I use to

Nothing solves the problem completely. Redirecting DNS at the router to a blocking DNS server goes a long way, but DNS over HTTPS is a tougher nut to crack.

I've heard this stated a few times - that flat roofs are meaningfully cheaper - but really? How? The tiny bit of extra material to add a bit of height to some ridge seems trivial. Where's the cost?

I'm trying to pitch a flat section of roof on my house because it leaks. Flat roofs are sometimes flat because of too-low or badly-defined building height limits. Boringness also probably comes from increasing numbers of people involve
