I bought 42 Sunpower X21-335 panels used for about $4700 shipped to my door a few years ago and couldn't be happier. As far as I could tell they weren't actually ever unboxed.

I'm actively trying to drive down my marginal cost of electricity explicitly so I can use more of it to make my life better. I am absolutely driving up my total energy consumption, not just switching fuels.

What makes solid CO2 better for the purpose than liquid nitrogen or just the high-pressure air or maybe air mixed with super-chilled water? I'm sure the folks involved have thought about alternatives, but I'm most curious what pro

He's pointing out that focusing on issues that don't have real impact is starving us of our ability to focus on broader, more serious issues. The shrinking of the middle class is a tangible problem. Words being insufficiently incl

It should be fast to build houses. My family acquired land, designs, permits, and moved in to a place in rural TN in about 9 months. It's taken me 2 years to get a site development permit (permission to ask for a building permit) to mo

Build, baby, build. But we need property rights to be able to do it. None of this discretionary permitting nonsense; that's how we got into this mess.

The house I bought had solar thermal panels (from 1975!) to heat pool water. I took them off last year and put photovoltaic panels up instead. That ~zeroed my electric bill and I'm starting to electrify to make use of the low-cost ener

I'm also interested! I know a few classes of car destroyers. Some of them get into serious crashes. Some of them are more persistently mildly abusive or inattentive and do a lot of cosmetic and cleanliness damage. One person I know doe

We desperately need property rights in the US if we want to build our way out of the housing crisis.

Maybe! But some folks would like some redundancy on infrastructure, particularly for emergencies. My elderly parents, for example, held on to a land line until they had both cell and fiber internet in their very-rural home. They wanted to h

If the channel is is in-spec, then the geometry doesn't matter. The 802.3 series doesn't specify the cable geometry. They do specify channel parameters like FEXT, NEXT, IL, and RL across frequency ranges of interest. Maybe the CAT

I live in Los Altos Hills but online correction software sees the zip (which we share) and corrects it to Los Altos, the next town over. This often causes confusion.

Anything you subsidize gets more expensive due to supply, demand, and availability of money. We see the same inflation in college tuition (cheap loans), home prices (mortgage subsidies), and health care (myriad things, but e.g. pre-tax HSA

Now if only the portable fuel cans I'm able to buy were this good. Instead, they have nozzles that require a third hand to operate and they don't have breather tubes (by law these days, I think), so they make a mess every time. Fi

House them where though? CA is short housing, that's one of our worst problems. And local homeless people have already put up tents and parked RVs everywhere. Could we have avoided this problem by building housing while labor could sti

Unfortunately, the local control approach isn't providing enough housing. Giving property owners rights will allow market forces to provide what is needed. Nobody is saying that the owner of the parking lot must develop housing on it
