I'm a dev and I see my job very much in contrast to what you've described. My job is to solve business problems, typically using code, but it all the things around it like requirements gathering etc. It also definitely includes tr

This is the kind of comment about art that is measured, constructive, non-absolutist, and too rare on HN in posts about art (and urban dictionary has an entry for 'reverse monet' cos I wondered, but I'd skip that one if I wer

People who are precious about art will keep defining it away from anything that upsets them.

So you do that on 100 different tables - then what? Join them, return them to the client, what? Stuff's missing here.

What would you prefer to see instead, bearing in mind that anything you will suggest is likely to bsave minimal typing but introduce new complexity into sql which everyone agrees is already creaking like a constipated elephant.

As others have said, any decent optimiser will prune out values that aren't SELECT'ed. I don't think it's that complex either - find the unused columns, remove them from subviews, recurse all the way down. Try it on MSSQ

Please never allow this into production. I believe it is deprecated, it certainly is fragile in general.

Very interesting. I don't have experience with copilot, but with my own programming I tend to abstract heavily until repetition is removed and there's little to repeat (that said there are places where the language, C# in my case,

The 2nd vid I downloaded. 18.5 meg. A transcription would be maybe 2K? And I could read it at my own speed instead of having to skip back when it covered things too fast, and there could be URLs to useful stuff like papers and wiki pages (l

That 2nd video is awful, it's just a talking head with the content repeated as text. It's the worst of both video and text.

In the UK we have standing charges on meters. These are fixed charges regardless of how much energy you use. You pay extra on top for your energy. I use very, very little gas. Currently my standing charge is about 4 times the cost of the (t

I try to write good questions for stackoverflow (which I'm certainly not dissing, I think it;s a great resource used properly) and I usually miss something out and have to throw in an edit. Fair enough, but it amazes me the number of p

The comparison is fatuous. If your mates had names and there was a button on your phone, one for each acquaintance by name, you wouldn't need a way of looking them up. BTW I also worked on a small in-house system that was just a run-it

UI research is a thing. Aside of that, allowing the user to alter the UI to their tastes might also be a thing. Customising, it used to be called. That way it can be good for both of us - or even the same person who's level of experien

If your websites are just for you that's good, if not, you are designing for the end-user. What you've just said seems to amounts to a big F.U. to the user. Not a good approach to improving a UI.
