After having used Claude for a couple of months it's really nowhere close. We are at the level of the original Waymo cars where they had to have a person behind the wheel ready to take the controls, just in case it inexplicably decided

If you search back HN history to the beginnings of AI coding in 2021 you will find people observing that AI is bad for juniors because they can't distinguish between good and bad completions. There is no surprise, it's always been

The UB in this case is "you may get another value in the sandboxed memory region if you dereference an invalid pointer, rather than a guaranteed trap". You can still have UB even in a sandbox. Seems like they got overly attached t

I still don't understand why it's slower to mask to 33 or 34 bit rather than 32. It's all running on 64-bit in the end isn't it? What's so special about 32?

You can't put this all on the users. The JS/node/npm projects have been mismanaged since the start. node should have shipped "batteries included" after the left-pad incident. There was a boneheaded attachment to sma

I agree in principle, but child_process is a thing so I don't think it makes much difference. You are pwned either way if the package can ever execute code.

I'd much rather eat a cake that has the texture of a cake rather than some food science abomination. It's corporations that have taught you to desire the wrong definition of a cake. Grandmas should not be cooking cakes from boxe

The Nordic countries have always been into social control but Denmark adds a side of paranoid ethnonationalism into the mix which leads to some very strange values.

> set an age limit of 16 to have social media This just shows how futile it is. How do you actually stop someone from using social media? If a 15 year old signs up for Mastodon what is Australia going to do about it?

Claude is a junior. The more you work with it, the more you get a feel for which tasks it will ace unsupervised (some subset of grunt work) and which tasks to not even bother using it for. I don't trust Claude to write reams of code th

Detection is 14/15ths of the battle. Forcing attackers to produce a brand new exploit chain every few weeks massively increases attack cost which could make it uneconomical except for national security targets.

Agreed, offsets are an anti-pattern. Any time you have a nonzero offset you almost certainly want either a tz name (e.g. Europe/Paris), a local datetime, an instant, or a formatted string. Datetime + tz name: a point in time and space
