Trust science, but, unfortunately, not scientists, many of who have shown to be just as capable of letting their biases override their reason as the rest of the unwashed masses.

Just being a decent human being with no agenda but trying to ask interesting questions. It is shocking how rare and precious simply being genuine is these days.

I think you are being overly charitable. The NYT staff is far from unemployable elsewhere. They just made a calculus that their conscience, and the nation's soul, are not worth the loss of personal status that a departure from what use

How can you absolve the people working there from their responsibility? They are not grasshoppers, they have, I assume, a functioning prefrontal cortex and can see the corruption as plainly as anyone else. Anyone left at the NYT is there by

Pity party? What are you talking about? Whatever you think of Scott, what was done to him was disgraceful and an abuse of power and the vengeful hit piece is utterly dishonest. For anyone who cares, it is beyond dispute that the NYT is a

The NYT just published a hit piece on him, exactly as he predicted. Whatever faith you might still have on the NYT is misplaced. They have become nothing but a band of vengeful, dishonest crooks, bent on secreting poison and fomenting hat

I suggest that perhaps you just have not had as much knowledge about previous hit pieces as you had about this one. The NYT did this to Jordan Peterson and no doubt others. They are completely morally bankrupt and do not deserve anyone'

Yes, I do believe it, even the 30% of Trump loyalist, which I do not think are any less patriotic than the elite. But only if their leaders were trustworthy and frank and not patronizing, cynical assholes, transparently lying all the time.

Are you being intentionally obtuse just to get a fight going, or you really do not understand what "I truly believe most Americans would not hoard masks if they were asked to" means? In case of the later, it means that I truly bel

Or perhaps it is your estimation that is overly pessimistic, we will never know. Either way, if you ask me, right now the country would be better off with more idealism and less cynicism from its leaders.

Exactly. It was incredibly stupid and turned what could have been a moment of realized civic spirit, as I truly believe most Americans would not hoard masks if they were asked to, into yet more evidence that institutions are rotten and cann

This is an amazing book, the engineering, bottom-up counterpart to the equally marvelous, but top-down, mathematical SICP. Between these two a serious student can get a wonderful foundation in CS and a deep and hopefully enduring connection

I agree, its an open problem. One one hand no one elected these companies as arbiters of what is good but on the other society at large is not equipped to handle the tsunami of speech that the internet enabled. Something has to be done.

I am all for the free market, but when companies grow too dominant it no longer works, and we should not pretend otherwise. Just look at what happened to Parler.

How could that possibly work, ever? If RH can stop me from making a trade they deem bad, why don't they just trade on my behalf? This is nonsense. Any pretense of caring for their users could be faked by simply putting a banner up on
