Of course, many people in the site see themselves as heroes because they joined the BLM protests during the pandemic. Their self awarded virtue would loose its shine if the data shows that the people they are demonstrating for aren't t

Money gives you freedom from many things that can make you (very) unhappy. This isn't sufficient for happyness but its a good start.

What do you want your child selected on for an elite school then? The bedrock reality is that most children, by definition, won't make it into an elite school. How do we pick?

I re-read your comment and yes, I think I ended up confirming your point. However, I do not agree with the conclusion that its not possible or desirable to compete with an IDE, not at all. A functioning LSP, which is completely achievable,

Yes, but I think that is not the whole story. The shift in value in the economy from things to bytes has massively amplified that tendency. Information production scales infinitely since information is free to copy. The work of one single g

I share the distress. Covid has accelerated the inequality that was already at record levels. For many in tech and other white colar work Covid is either a non-event or a net benefit, while for many others its life ruining. We better start

I am not sure that is necessarily that bleak. With the right two-way camera system it seems like the Yoga instructor could provide a comparable experience whether remote or local. Seems like we just need better hardware and software.

From your post it sounded like you might just not care about other people. I was trying to understand where you were coming from better. Part of me likes your approach but another part made me suspect you were just an A-Hole, no offense. Se

When I tried LSP for C++, speed wasn't the issue, though you do have to jump through some hoops to make sure emacs uses native JSON parsing. The problem was just stability as LSP for C++ was stupid buggy as recently as a couple of mont

emacs --daemon/emacsclient solves that for me. Emacs doom, which is sort of custom distribution of emacs, also solves this problem in another way by carefully optimizing startup times. Either way, its a solved problem.

My perspective, as a mostly C++ programmer, is completely different from yours. LSP is great when it works, which unfortunately in my experience is seldom, and it is absolutely key to retaining advanced users. If someone like me, who knows

To be fairer, the US isn't just any government. Asides from being the richest and most advanced nation in he world, as Gates points out the US also has the best epidemiologists in the world. One would expect better.

You could use the same tactics that were used to discourage smoking: forbid it for minors, force them to display a "health" warning banner, start a public health campaign shaming people for using it, etc.
