I went through a Montessori school until year 7, and I think it was very good for me, although I'm not sure how well it would have suited high school for me (the school I was at offered until year 12 but there were very few students wh

Well I guess talking to people and telling them you're writing an article about "The Secret Life of Passwords" is more novel than giving them a call pretending to be from their bank or telco. I dearly hope that those people w

Kind of sucks if you're trying to design something that's usable with a mouse and with touch though. Plenty of interfaces out there that don't take into account that there's no hover state for a finger.

All the instances of these that I've seen rely on social engineering to do their thing though (we had a teacher at my school fall victim to one recently, which is moderately entertaining [when you have up to date backups] when you have

This was the thing that immediately leapt out at me as well, though I imagine you wouldn't just leave The Machine to manage things forever more, you'd use it as a first responder and then analyse and patch the vulnerability proper

I came pretty close to choking (whilst home alone) as a young kid when I thought it'd be a great idea to try to swallow a peach pip. I like to think I'm not that dumb now, but as a kid I did some really idiotic things that serious

That's probably the first practical use of the paired doodle thing they demoed that I've seen. I wonder if that works independently of the phone, or if it's done via phone bluetooth.

Absolutely on naming. I read the article and thought that Letters sounded like a good game so I figured I'd go get it. I went to the app store, searched for 'Letters' and got a million early childhood apps returned (actually

I think you might want to consider non-renewable energy sources, non-recyclable waste and so on before throwing words like 'equilibrium' around :) I get that it's in the context of population though.

Heh. I've heard from other teachers that we have the opposite issue: some schools encouraging students who will perform poorly to be absent whenever testing happens. (Australia, not US, so not sure how you lot handle absentees for test

I know we love to harp on about teacher quality, but there are plenty of other factors that are just as important like access to the right learning programs, classroom mix and so on. As a teacher I'll be the first to admit that for som

With the utmost sincerity I wish you the best of luck with that. We've recently had two in-depth studies here in Australia on resourcing for schools, and neither have made it past the politicians without getting butchered. In Western A

Ignoring the obvious hyperbole of your first sentence, sure politics essentially sets the curriculum (for better or for worse). That doesn't excuse the political system also getting in the way of teaching it. Mercifully in Australia we

There are completely different mechanics in a slap though. With a punch you have different delivery options (looping vs linear vs uppercut etc) all of which affect the way in which the force is generated. With a slap you're pretty limi
