You can set the power limit of the 3090 as low as 100W. It will slow it down a lot, but probably still decently faster than a T4.

256gb of ddr4 rdimms only costs about $400 right now. $200 for ddr3. Not uncommon in homelabs. I don't think 200gb ram is actually required, that's just what that cloud vm was spec'd with. Though the 175b model should see ben

A lot of people (including me in the past) have used the term intermittent fasting to describe this, but it's not a good label for this. Intermittent fasting should describe protocols where one fasts for at least a full day. If one is

Did they require the failed drives to be returned? Did the secure erase function work on a failed drive? I guess this is a good reason for full disk encryption even on machines where I'm satisfied with their physical security.

There was a group that tried to do this recently and Kickstarter shut them down.

No job I have had since the first one has asked about college in the interview process. Nor do I ask anyone except new grads about their college experience. No, it's not relevant.

I'm not the grandparent. But my opinion: Kingkiller Chronicles has a lot of fans (though fewer and fewer as time goes on), and I thought Name of the Wind was fine as a beginning to a potentially good story. But Wise Man's Fear was

Does it not let you log in with your old password after requesting a password change? That seems even more problematic, since anyone can request you password be changed.

Studying nuclear bombs is still the point. The press releases about fusion "energy" are just for appearances sake. The methods they employ are useless for energy applications. They're just H-bomb simulations.

The entire point of LLNL is to study nuclear bombs.

A rare instance of xkcd being just plain wrong. ;) "a couple" = 2 "a few" = 3 (maaaybe 4) "several" = 4 to 7 "a handful" = context dependent, usually ambiguous

Electrically moving the bolt is a waste of battery power. The decent locks just engage/disengage the bolt from the latch and let the human do the turning.

1. I don't see the problem with GPU support sticks. I used one at least 12 years ago. 2. The real problem, in my opinion, is out of control power consumption. Get these cards back down to 200 W. That's already twice the power deli

I'm not a Slack user, but relying on Discord for business purposes seems like a bad idea. They can decide they don't like an account at the drop of a hat, and out of 1000 users it probably isn't an unlikely scenario.
