I read your post as FUD regarding Postgres. That article has various issues, for example, calling Postgres commit protocol as a special case of two phase commit is not really correct. Postgres has 2pc: http://www.postgresql.org&#

The parent post correctly pointed out that including Postgres in that list is misleading at least.

This particular query does a nested loop on the detail table, but basically yes. Only one iteration.

Postgres/Oracle supports such constructs. And Revenj has been using it for years: https://github.com/ngs-doo/revenj And yes, Revenj now comes with an offline compiler ;)

You can avoid this in Postgres which supports objects and collections. So... no. O/R impedence doesn't apply to an ORDBMS

While that's a fair criticism (to have compiler offline), dsl-platform can be licensed for an offline use. It's not like Revenj needs dsl-platform, but rather that dsl-platform integrates into Revenj. So to make it blunt, would yo

You might find Revenj ( https://github.com/ngs-doo/revenj ) interesting too. It maps DSL schema to various Postgres objects and offer 1:1 mapping between view in the DB and incoming/outgoing Json.

As someone who is trying to improve the situation ( https://dsl-platform.com ) it's strange getting feedback from other developers. While we are obviously not very good at marketing, when you talk to other developers about pr

This is not true. Both Oracle and Postgres are ORDBMS and you can work with objects/nested collections and all kind of non-relational constructs.

We are using Oracle object types in plain SQL, so no, they are not PL/SQL exclusive. But yeah, you can do a lot less with them outside of PL/SQL.

Both Oracle and Postgres have objects and collections. This allows you to build hierarchical structures. Postgres unfortunately doesn't allow for recursive structures ;( If you are interested in how to do it take a look here: https:&#

Can you expand on what's wrong with declarative design? I'm not talking about UML, but modeling specifically. Since I've been doing it for quite a few years I guess I know a thing or two about MDA/MDE. And it's not

Ok, I admit my comment is a little overboard. Comparing Mysql migration to Postgres is not really helping this discussion. Postgres has transaction DDL with many schema change operations being O(1). Most of the time your data has structure

I'm really failing to understand obsession with unstructured types in Postgres? Why can't you just use native types for hierarchical structures? Is it really that hard for people to maintain database changes?

Well, I'm arguing that flexible schema is better than no schema. And in practice schemaless is only about schema defined outside of database. It's a solution to the wrong problem.

Postgres supports native nested structures. Well, as long as your structures are not circular. JSON everywhere is really a bad choice for most data structures. It's like having no structure at all.

Postgres type system is so much better than any other RDBMS that it's a shame NoSQL guys didn't spend more time building on top of it. While their optimizer could use some work here and there it's improving all the time. We are doing some p

Time/flexibility problem can be solved (but it's hard). Take a look at DSL Platform (shameless plug) if you are interested in building on top of database, while having very flexible model.

Lead dev here. I know that NoSQL on top of SQL is something many aspire to. This is my brainchild, so if you've got any technical questions, I'll gladly answer them.
