Hi, I'm one of the organizers. Any Rack-based framework was allowed this year (keeping it Ruby-specific). We're looking to do a more framework/language-agnostic event in the very near future, leveraging a lot of the infrastructure / service

This makes me sad. I'll certainly miss it. There is still the online presence of course, as well as the (relatively) recently launched dobbscodetalk.com

Just an FYI... The official list will be online at the Rails Rumble 2008 site shortly, once voting opens. Teams have an additional 24 hours to update their profiles (make screencasts, etc) and then we need to review and weed out any entries

This is typical of the sort of person who believes that the value of something is entirely the idea, rather than in the implementation of the idea. Unfortunately, that mindset never actually accomplishes anything. Ideas aren't worth the pap

someone really had to write this up? watch the screencast, it's pretty simple. also, why "on Slicehost" instead of "on a VPS"? Still don't understand why people are so loyal to Slicehost. Linode ftw.

Very cool. Good pricing, and ToS aren't hidden/braindead like so many other (private) repository hosting services.

Yes, and best of luck to everyone. Remember, if you have a great idea that you're passionate about, don't let not being selected deter you from working on it!

I prefer the loose coupling of Amazon's web service components. But that said, this is certainly an interesting development with a lot to offer. Python wouldn't have been my language of choice but it's a logical choice for Google. I giggle

A lower barrier to entry often means that a low standard of quality should be expected of a lot of entries :). But I can't argue that it's an easy choice for someone who wants to get started writing web applications in their garage -- $8 sh

My thought as well. YC would be huge for me; the resources they can offer and the sense of community and advice most importantly. But I'm certainly doing this either way. Not getting selected will not deter me. If not getting selected does
