I was going to make a version of Ted Nelson's Zigzag for the Symbian platform (circa 2002). It never worked out. I worried recently that I didn't catch the wave (eg, Symbian), but now I know that the iPhone changed distribution, and actuall

Well, I told the author of SQLite that a double inner join took forever to complete. He just told me I was wrong, but this inner join worked fine on PostGres, MySql and so on. It annoys me, because neither PostGres not MySql are a binary fi

An ex-graduate of my University came to give a talk in 2003 about his job with HP, and he seemed unable to tell the difference between revenue and profit! Hence, HP had a 'profit' of $51 billion rather than a 'revenue' of $51 billion.

In the DVD commentary, they mention 'some software' which they used to find the anagrams. I have a feeling this is 'NAMEGRAM' (ie, avaiable around 1992) which you can still find online.

Perhaps they could reverse-engineer the Windows 3.1 software and get it to run on XP? Can't tell from the details why the software won't do Windows XP.

Running SUSE 9.1 on a Dell Precision M70. Huge screen works fine in Suse, and as I use an external PS2 keyboard, no chance of accidentally tapping the mouse pad. Wifi works fine on M70's internal wifi card. Great cheap Linux laptop.

Have you got the URL of any websites that offer such an alignment tool? Preferably done using PC software and the XA1541 cable.

A few months ago, I found some C64 5 1/4 inch disks in my Mum's loft. I didn't need "crates of Apple II's", just a 1541 drive from Ebay and a XA1541 cable to connect to my laptop's parallel port. I worked out a system whereby I'd read a dis

I wrote a novel on an Amstrad NC-100. It had a 1MB PCMCIA flash disk (from an Apple Newton!) and I saved a chapter at a time onto the disk (it only had 64KB of RAM) and I installed a new, clearer screen in it. Nice little machine!

Is there an alternative to Berkeley DB which has a hash database file on disk? Rather than in RAM? The problem is I use BDB 1.86 on Windows, because it's free, but the DB size is limited to 2GB. I want to use an alternative which is just as

I got a $45 voucher (in the UK; £30) and I spoke to a rep on the phone. He said do this, do that, yet about 2 months later and my spent is £10 for that period! I'm actually disillusioned because I'm not getting enough clicks! My theory is

Soon after Apple (Computer) set up business, the Beatles' record label (Apple) asked Apple to change their business name. They didn't, so Apple (Computer) signed a contract with Apple to never enter the music industry. They broke this twice

I found out from reading the source to Wordpad, that on Windows 95/98, Wordpad would reject ANY file starting 'MZ' as 'executable'. Quite amusing.

I saw a grey-scale style calendar (branded with a pharmaceutical brand) in a pharmacy the other day. I asked if it was an e-ink display and they said yes. Then they realised it was just an old-style flip-page calendar which LOOKED like e-in
