It's called a parody, a piece of satire. Look it up. It's making fun of the modern employment system's aversion to free thinkers (and thereby scientific geniuses).

The Thriller 12" album on the other hand, is probably the best-mastered record (or CD) I've ever heard.

I right-clicked on the video and it says 'Flash 11'. Is it possible that if Flash isn't present, it shows it natively using Firefox?

I tried out the <video> tag on the 3.5 About page, but it still uses Flash. I thought the whole point was to go native and avoid Flash?

I had a laptop with 2 good batteries and I lasted out a power cut watching a whole DVD. The ADSL 'modem' was powered by the phone socket and shared over Wifi from another laptop with a (single) good battery, so I could continue using the in

Technical news has NEVER been that good in the mainstream papers. It's always been in niche magazines.

He mentions Last.FM as an example of 'Not getting it' - but CBS bought that. So in that at least, his argument is flawed.

That's the myth, as it is in publishing. On the one hand, they say a novel is 'written in crayon'. On the other hand, with a well-crafted novel that they can't sell, what is the excuse there? Simple, they just don't say it in public. This i

I was an Inform hacker in 1998. One thing I was proud of was having NPC's that took commands like the player. All I did was change a 'open' action so that it took an NPC argument (or whatever). The NPC really would move, and the door would

The British computer science teaching in Higher education is very high standard, but I can't get a job here myself. The BCS (British Computer Society, whose President I met in 2003), sets targets for University CS degrees in the UK. "BCS ac

Reading it depressed me because he was having such a good time. The film (and moreso, the book) Wonderboys I think depicts young academia brilliantly, much better than Catcher. It has the crazy mentor (which I also had) which Catcher lacks.

I once ranted to a FedEx carrier, who refused to deliver after 12PM, in the UK that 'Junk bonds bought Fred's first plane', and 'where's that spirit now?' etc etc. They were very helpful after that... They sent it out for 3PM and I got my p

I have a 'USB to PS2' dongle thingy with a USB mouse (into a PS2 adapter!) and keyboard. The trick is not to buy a keyboard PS2 adapter... buy one that does BOTH keyboard and mouse. These work better than the single sockets for some reason.

I've just been watching a Boston Legal episode (from series 4, ep 7), and fictionally, they sue YouTube. Not 'MegaView' or 'SuperVid', but YOUTUBE. I wondered how they can get away with using a real company in a fictional lawsuit?

I have an incredible d|i|g|i|t|a|l keyboard someone gave me in 1997, and it clunkers away incredibly nicely. Same layout as the M. I cleaned and even repaired it, supergluing the rubber thingies back onto the membranes. I also had to solder
