> disable all these modern features of Windows 11 Being a dependency of explorer.exe implies that it can't be disabled. To explain further: explorer.exe is responsible for your task bar, start menu, etc.

What I have learned from Nix is that polluting the global (user or system) environment is going to spell disaster at some point. Its obviously fixable in an obvious way, but why subject yourself to this nonsense in the first place. The only

Insurers work with data/metrics and generally make decisions based on that alone[1]. I often feel that it's unfair that I pay more as a male, because I am an extremely responsible and defensive driver - fact is, men cause more exp

I personally agree with this, but its more difficult to delineate. I suppose the key is that the patent is being used.

> Software patents are a scourge, The reason is because they aren't being used as they were intended: patents are _supposed_ to be a way to give inventors/entrepreneurs a window to build a market with their idea. Let's say

Couldn't agree more. Creating taxonomies has to be a dopamine hack or something, because humans will spend hours and hours on them. They will be left feeling rewarded and accomplished, despite accomplishing very little. It's playi

If you want to see this train wreck in action, look no further than eSports. Here you can see the gradual erosion of sportsmanship in a way that likely played out for conventional sports in the past.

Sops is probably ideal for lowest ceremony possible. Combine this with direnv for a seamless experience. If you don't want to commit/share secrets you could avoid sops and put this in your direnv envrc: `[ -e ~/.local/se

I guess another option would be to store the native code as an assembly manifest stream, and cast that to a delegate at runtime. That would achieve much the same thing as IJW without the proprietary bits.

Your assumptions about panic=abort are correct, it will simply terminate the entire process. The single thread and multithreaded behaviors are technically the same. A thread can observe the panic of another, as such, in a single threaded ap

We could use it to restore our own genome. The Y chromosome may become extinct in as little as 5Myr[1], such a record may allow our descendants to refresh it. We'd be avoiding a pretty common scifi trope (although the trope usually ari

Even though 1% loss is relatively common, it is a catastrophic amount of loss, and goes to show the miracle of TCP. 1% loss does not mean 1% less goodput; it means substantially more than 1%. TCP's (and QUIC, and what-have-you) control

As far as I understand it, the one major issue is that it can make a temporary problem (overweight) a chronic one. As a counter-example, most people experience depression at least once in their life and most of these take antidepressant
