Why not just a regular paid mail provider like mailbox.org or disroot.org? They also let you bring your own domain, so you can switch to a different provider anytime you want.

Do you have to learn kanji for Korean? If I remember correctly, Hangul is pretty straightforward and does not require you to memorize hundreds of characters.

I learned my kanjis with this. It will not nearly be enough to understanding Japanese (Now I would recommend lots of example sentences in Anki for this), but not having to manually lookup every kanji in my reading material sure helped me a

If I understand correctly, IPFS will even re-advertise blocks you have downloaded on the DHT. So per default your whole browsing history is public on the IPFS network.

If you have the ability to detect spam in emails you can probably also detect spam in chat messages.

Do you have any good source on why Google decided to shut down their XMPP service? I'd really like to read about it. Not sure about the spam thing, after all they also provide a federating email service.

The Signal protocol is an encryption protocol and not a message exchange protocol. I think WhatsApp is built on ejabberd for message exchange and possibly could be able to federate using XMPP.

I don't think that promoting existing internet standards over Matrix will hurt open communications. Instead I think constantly reinventing the same thing with slightly different, incompatible primitives is hurting the ecosystem a lot m

I use XMPP because unlike Matrix, XMPP is properly standardized and not a product by a single VC funded startup. If you ever have multiple independent implementations a single monolithic spec will always only be partially supported (or ther
