XMPP is just the internet standard, it does not try to solve the network effect problem. But it would be important if platforms like Signal, Telegram or Matrix would adopt it instead of inventing their own incompatible protocols. Without a

Then you probably should not buy an .eu domain. The registry states very clearly that .eu is in fact tied to your citizenship.

It's only useful if the theorems proven are interesting. Maybe there could be a cryptocurrency for mathematicians where you post theorem statements and put money in them. First one to find a proof gets whatever money was in the theorem

Not that hard. Everyone already knows how email works: you have to get an address first, download a client and login. I then showed them where to register ( https://providers.xmpp.net ) and how to download Conversations. It got ea

It helped a lot that I refuse to be reachable on messengers that are not XMPP compatible. Most of the people I care about actually have reachable chat addresses now. For the rest I fallback to SMS and Email.

That's why I run an XMPP server for family and friends. It's the IETF standard, no vendor lock-in and has Signal-style encryption nowadays.

You are probably using something that builds on it. It's the IETF standard for IM, scales very well and it still seems to be the industry standard for large messaging systems (WhatsApp, Zoom, Jitsi, Nintendo Switch presence... are know

Who exactly? The most common argument is that platforms should have the right to refuse service to users, not that those users should be jailed.

I doubt many users will host their own bridge. Also at least for XMPP I was not able to encrypt messages to Matrix users end-to-end or bridge-to-end, so I'd still recommend using XMPP with E2EE directly.

If I understand correctly, the Matrix encryption and message format is not compatible to other protocols so all messages must be decrypted and converted on the homeserver which runs the bridge.

Maybe I am capable to do so (although I already host an XMPP server, so Matrix is rather redudant) but expecting everyone to self-host is obviously not realistic. Currently Matrix is operating in a way that larger instances aggregate privat
