It would've been less annoying to not do a breaking change from Py2 to 3. JS never had a breaking change like that.

I never have to debug why my dhcp server isn't handing out ipv4 addresses or deal with conflicts, but if I did, it'd break mdns too. mdns is an extra moving part to deal with.

upnp should not exist. Any new router default disables it, as it should be.

Silliness of smart bulbs aside, I would hope the answer is how ipv6 is actually safe for this, not that you should just not use wifi.

Many routers don't firewall by default. Lemme check later, but pretty sure my basic ASUS router doesn't either.

Right. Though I would've used the built in xhr then. Not going to install a dep just to make http calls.

Node fetch is relatively new. Wasn't marked stable until 2023, though I've used it since like 2018.

But then all your local stuff is based on open-source software, unlike the SaaS which is probably not all the way open. I've always preferred my stack to be on the thinner, more vanilla, less prebuilt side than others around me, and se

I did buy a new key for my ex-cop car on eBay, but there isn't just one, I had to buy all 7 possibilities (for $8 total).

It says "public" parking lots, which maybe means government-owned ones, not private ones open to the public.

Doesn't detract from it. The jai tool is high-stakes, the static website isn't. The tool is designed to be used with LLM coding agents, so if anything it makes sense to vibecode the website, even better if the author used jai in t

You can if you have the source code, but I think that requires at least signing with a free account.

Option-clicking the green button maximizes it similarly to Windows, rather than going fullscreen. I never used fullscreen just because of the slow animation it used, and now it makes even less sense on my new MacBook with the notch. It basi

Ok, that's all I meant, you can use the phone without logging in. Yeah you need it for the App Store. Well even if the App Store let you download as guest, the real problem would be that the phone doesn't let you download from els

Yes. Considering that Apple created the smartphone as we know it, and it had this limitation from the start, seems normal even though I don't really like it. This wouldn't be acceptable on a PC or tablet (hence why iPads suck).

Amazon has brand value because both buyers and sellers trust it, aside from the shipping speed. An LLM can't evaluate trust for you, and it especially won't win in adverserial games like price haggling.

Does iOS truly require it? I thought that was only if you wanted to use the store.

Xcode is also available as a standalone download from developer.apple.com, which requires an account too, but at least it's way more reliable than downloading from the store.

Mac doesn't require an Apple ID to use. iPhone only needs one for installing apps, and my only complaint is it's the strictest auth check on the entire phone besides disabling the account. Shouldn't need to input the Apple ID

I only deal with Windows during a little IT volunteering. The org's PC has an MS account, which is ok per se, but the nagging doesn't stop there. Like it randomly started asking for SMS verification at login, which looks like a re

Wine is also the reason why Windows software has more longevity on Mac than Mac software. Like, 32-bit didn't get deprecated in Wine.

I remember it being surprisingly decent for games back then. Then a lot of games moved to Steam, which made it way harder to run them in Wine. Of course there was later Proton for that, but not on Mac.

I mean against a ballista that's the same thing but without the automatic bolt feeder that makes it a "machine gun." Against an archer, I'm not surprised, but that was the advantage of a regular ballista too (and later c

Yeah I figured it's more convenient, but they're claiming it's also twice as fast. With the chu ko nu I get it, you only have two hands, so the auto reload was faster.

I'm not even considering the magazine reload time, just the time between shots assuming a full mag. That's 10 recharges either way, as shown in the videos. It's not like a machine gun where the energy is in the powder.
