Thanks for this. From the link: My teammate Dave Anderson is writing a post about all the insanity that is NAT traversal. That alone will probably be as long as this entire article. Stay tuned! I've watched countless p2p projects fai

Thanks for mentioning that, I didn't know about k-space. I worked with 2D Fourier transforms a lot in MATLAB about 15 years ago, but if anyone has info or examples of a 3D FT and how to interpret them, I'd love to see them.

The feeling of being on-call is what sucks the soul from a worker's body. I've experienced it off and on over the last 20 years and IMHO it's one of the great problems of our time. I'd like to see labor move towards a di

I wish I could upvote you 100. State machines are fine up to some number of states, on the order of 10. Beyond that, they become incredibly difficult to reason about in real programs because each state may have side effects with program sta

Thank you, that was very insightful. I've felt that way about generators, but it never occurred to me that try/catch could be viewed similarly to a coroutine (because it's basically using goto to jump to alternate states too)

Well, I'm coming from the Javascript side, where people use promises a lot for async, but it's almost impossible to trace execution in the debugger. It's usually immediately obvious to me that many exceptions and failure mode

I've shied away from async/await because I haven't seen a good writeup on how to make it deterministic. Come to think of it, all of the times I've encountered it, there was no way to analyze the codepaths and prove that

I agree with your assessment 100%. Does anyone else out there get frustrated with "bare hands" conventions? That's where you have to manually follow a verbose convention or write things like glue manually, when the compiler&#

My former business partner is in the boat you describe. He learns the bare minimum needed to do the task at hand and seems pleased with that. He still has the joy of discovery, but it's more about what he can do with the tech than any

This is interesting, but I would have thought that gigabit ethernet would have higher latency than 100 megabit, because with spread-spectrum communication, latency tends to go up as bandwidth goes up. So ethernet must use a more discrete en

The same thing happened to me. In my case, I've basically been in chronic burnout since 2000 because of some poor business and career decisions where I spent too much time working for too little. So every task began to feel like work,

May I ask your age? You sound a bit young. The things you talk about are well-within the purview of the government. If this were happening in the 1980s, I think that we would have kept our calm better. I was a child then, and my grandparent

There are many papers online giving confidence that 50-80 mg zinc (gluconate) reduces colds by a day or two and 1000-2000+ IU vitamin D3 reduces flu by a day or two. So while I disagree with your conclusion that Chloroquine won't work,

I tend to agree, for me the music died sometime around 2000 with the post-90s hangover of facing "reality" with 9/11 and consolidation of radio station ownership. In my city, we simply don't have any real radio stations.
