Dolt's EXPLAIN output prints the execution tree directly. E.g.: explain select * from xy join uv on (x = u and u > 0) where u < 2; Project ├─ columns: [xy.x:2!null, xy.y:3, uv.u:0!null, uv.v:1] └─ LookupJoin

I'm on the basic plan and usually see about 75mbps. It can drop to 20 or so during peak netflix hours. But that's still plenty fast enough for multiple HD video streams. What we had before was much slower and much, much less relia

I just switched from long-range wireless to Starlink basic. It's 50% cheaper and much, much more reliable. Speeds are comparable (when the long-range wifi wasn't down, which it was pretty often). Long-range wifi had a data cap wit

The "damages" here come from reduced projected growth rates relative to a scenario without climate change. I.e. people will be richer than they are today in 2050, but poorer than they would have hypothetically been in a world with

Reading the fine print a bit more, I see this is limited to single-line completions. Copilot will often write complete blocks for me. Might still be nice to use when I'm on the road though.

JetBrains IDES already have copilot integration which works quite well and which I use constantly. This part piques my interest though: > It works locally and is available offline. This means you can take advantage of the feature even if

Nothing, it's just quite a bit more complicated to implement a backend that supports writes.

Yes, that's the idea. Writing a simple read only database back end is not too tough.

I don't think we do have any benchmarks of replication from mySQL, but I am positive there's no chance it can handle 10,000 TPS.

If your program integrates with mysql in production, you can use this for much faster local tests. It doesn't have to be a go program, although that makes it easier.

We are moving in that direction but it's not a primary goal at this point. Once we have more basic functionality working correctly in doltgres we will examine splitting off a separate package for it. The in memory implementation has a

I don't think this is in the cards for vitess, their whole architecture is built around managing sharded mysql instances.

The vanilla package can replicate to or from MySQL via binlog replication. But since it's memory only, that's probably not what you want. You probably want to supply the library a backend with persistence, not the built-in memory-

This is a reasonable point, we'll run some benchmarks and publish them. We expect that it's faster than MySQL for small scale. Dolt is only 2x slower than MySQL and that includes disk access. https://docs.dolthub.com&#x

Vitess (a fork of it anyway) provides the parser and the server. The query engine is all custom go code.

Not a proxy in the traditional sense, no. go-mysql-server is a set of libraries that implement a SQL query engine and server in the abstract. When provided with a compatible database implementation using the provided interfaces, it becomes

We haven't benchmarked the in-memory database implementation bundled in go-mysql-server in a while, but I would be surprised if it's any slower than MySQL, considering that Dolt runs on the same engine and is ~2x slower than MySQL

As I understand it, refinement culture has nothing to do with quality per se, rather it's about the elaboration of tropes and other recognizable patterns. Think ornamentation rather than architecture.

Interesting to think of this as an analog to refinement culture, where instead of endless elaboration and adding complexity, they are stripping away all unnecessary elements to discover the platonic ideal of marketable music.
