I'd submit http://www.xach.com/naggum/articles/3208226254834485@naggum.... if my site wasn't blacklisted. "What I want from my Common Lisp vendor and the Common Lisp community"

I'm surprised no font snob has brought up the lack of VAG Rounded yet.

This guide refers to outdated and obsolete concepts from CLtL1. I'd recommend reading http://www.gigamonkeys.com/book/programming-in-the-large-pac... from Practical Common Lisp or just the relevant portions of the spec at http://l1sp.org

This rant would be more effective and persuasive if also directed at the Google engineers who made this hashbang style pervasive in Google Groups. I didn't think it would be possible to get deep links to old articles even worse than befor

Why wasn't it called "The http server written in Arc challenge" at http://www.paulgraham.com/arcchallenge.html ?

Maybe they use Arc, e.g. http://news.ycombinator.com/nosuchfile

You have to parse Lisp programs that are stored in a string or a file. You can make new Lisp programs from objects that have never been in a file.

That's a little funny, since the LispWorks IDE editor is an Emacs written in Common Lisp.

https://groups.google.com/group/comp.lang.lisp/msg/6e91e20f2... has some good advice for making life easier when hacking Lisp regardless of the editor involved.

Sorry. I make money selling it, and don't want to give it away. Many of the libraries involved are available from http://xach.com/lisp/ and https://github.com/xach/ though.

Uses a version of news.arc vulnerable to the identity stealing problem described in http://xach.livejournal.com/228481.html That's still the latest version of news.arc publicly available, though.

Functions are good. Defining them at runtime with (setf (fdefinition ...) ...) is rarely good.

You should learn about WITH-OUTPUT-TO-STRING. (string-downcase (string thing)) should be written (string-downcase thing) The fdefinition trick is not a good one. Define the functions at compile-time, not at runtime.
