I suspect you'll want something a touch faster than O(l) for every lookup, in fact given the previous constraint of memory being no problem, you should instead use a hashtable.

You can skip the pipe by using find's '-exec' option. It will save you the pipe. The example: "find . -name '* .py' | xargs grep 'import'" would become "find . -name '* .py' -exec grep -H 'import' {} \;". You need to include the -H
