I tried the WSound demo at the exact same time my UPS lost power and started beeping. I nearly spit my drink out! How did they do that?! Then reality settled back in and I thought myself an idiot.

I am skeptical because none of the areas that they are concerned with seem like they will lead to innovation. Do we need another Yelp app? It seems like that's the type of thing they would (of course) love to fund (and make money off of).

For me, I looked at the market in July 2008 and saw an opportunity in a darts game of all things. I'm not an avid darts player but I had just installed a dart board in my basement a few weeks prior to the start of the project. My thought w

You can write apps in other languages and embed the associated interpreter (e.g. Ruby, Lua, Python). You are not allowed to download and interpret code that has not been signed and reviewed.

"After some soul searching, I decided to take a two-week leap into digital darkness – limiting my internet, TV, and cell phone access to working hours." One does not require soul-searching in order to watch TV during work hours. ;)

I am exactly in this scenario and answered "no" to only 3 of the statements. Taken at face value that's pretty encouraging.

If you believe in the web as the future for apps equally powerful to desktop apps, all the nuts and bolts have to exist. I am neutral on such a vision personally but a browser vendor probably has likely already drank the kool aid. Thus, yo

With so many screens I would think it might be interesting to consider removing the bevels on the edges. The big black bar effect looks bad IMHO. I have no idea if this is possible to remove while leaving the VESA mount on the back, or eve

I found this too: "Yup. Seen that one [UDT]. However, AFAIU, it focuses on moving large messages over high-latency high-volume links. 0MQ is focused on short messages on low-latency high-volume links." http://lists.zeromq.org/pipermail/zer

From one of the comments on that page: "Likewise, neither 0MQ nor AMQP works on Internet scales, where RESTful principles become more important than immediate performance." I don't follow this logic. Can someone help me understand why 0MQ

How exactly would you do this with Redis? Redis does not push out data to N > 1 listeners/observers/subscribers. I suppose you could use either SYNC and pretend to be a replication slave, MONITOR and watch for RPUSH, or BLPOP. BLPOP h

Yes, it does. See the LPOPRPUSH and BLPOP protocol commands. There's a number of threads on the Redis Google Group about using Redis as a job queue. There's also Resque by a githubber. http://github.com/defunkt/resque
