Well, that depends on context and language. I know at least on language where the binary representation of String and String|Int is different and where the difference matters.

It was, back when all mainstream statically typed languages had atrocious UX and there really was no good example of a language with ergonomic typing. Even now, there are very few languages around which has that. The most ergonomic I know o

If you need citation for that you clearly don't use jira.

The problem is that all those words make it harder to find the meaning. Well-chosen naming exposes it.

FWIW, the types possible to express in gql is quite a lot weaker than the ones in openapi, where you can for example say not only is a field a string, but also that it matches a certain format.

Not necessarily. The problem is that it doesn't mean anything because they have different instruction sets. That makes comparing ipc pretty useless.

For starters, because the concurrency story in Kotlin is also built on the structured concurrency idea.

Better AWS pays for Rust development than if noone would. Also, some of the reason AWS has a bad rep is not giving back to the communities of the open source projects they use. Well, this would be them doing just that.

Yes, hence "elevated" and not "root". It is still higher than default, right?

I would argue the api of kqueue is clunkier and less general. Io_uring can keep track of events through using event_fds, but yes, that is perhaps not optimal.

Io_uring will be big under the hood for frameworks and/or programming languages too. But yes, adoption will take a while..

Submit is not a syscall. io_uring_enter is the only syscall that is used while running a ring. That one may submit, wait or both at the same time. Strictly speaking it isn't necessary but to avoid it you require elevated privileges.

Dunno about that, the Heroku UI seems a bit stalled in development.

A big reason for the abysmal performance is however that nvidia has intentionally locked down the performance for code that doesn't have the right credentials. We don't know if Apple have done something similar.

One thing that has been known for a while is that there are allocation patterns where LibC malloc doesn't give back a sufficient amount of pages even when the pages are clean. See for example https://www.joyfulbikeshedding.c

Faster at WHAT? It is a world of difference between apps that depends on single core performance and tasks that can easily be spread out over 8 cores.

Yes. The basic rule is that things that could be stored on the heap will need to be explicit or inferrable directly from the constructors. But as method parameters generally (except sometimes, like in procs) don't need typing it is qui

Sure, that part is good and in some cases their approach has improved the state of the art (adding an automatic formatter to the language is perhaps the most obvious?), but at the same time I'm happy to use another language and not be

Nothing stops a model with lightweight threads from limiting a thread from having a separate pool of fibers running on it. It would probably require a construct like a nursery configured to run the fibers in a dedicated thread.

Well, for example his administration has put people in concentration camps and separated their children from parents. Which is quite analogous on a level of sheer horribleness.
