You are absolutely correct. Timestamping alone does not suffice, but it is another layer of defense which does work. Most bots do not have random delays. I'll try to look up some numbers on this.

Proof of work surely is a very interesting concept, but I'm not sure it's preferable to other methods. As far as I'm concerned using up 8 seconds of user computation time (during which you cannot guarantee responsiveness) is just as bad a

This is yet another case that shows that 3G data is absurdly priced way above any reasonable equilibrium.

Great stuff! I personally have been using many of these techniques in Django projects of mine, but it's nice to have a repo with everything in the same place. Specifically - I love the lambda * x hack.

Important thing to note. This Thread.php implementation works using pcntl_fork(). The biggest gotcha - pcntl_fork() is not supported under Apache. Basically rendering the whole thing rather useless for most use cases.

Here's a sketchy description for a possible solution. The easy part is that we know that if x and y are the missing and duplicate indices form vector V then we have: |x-y| = |sum(V) - (N*(N-1))/2| So far - constant space and linear

Your us-east-1b is not other customers us-east-1b. Availability zones are permuted randomly for each customer. Nonetheless, just because you haven't been affected, doesn't mean other have not been, or still aren't.

The calculation is an inclusive, yearly , uptime percentage. This is assuming no other downtime will occur during 2011. Additionally, this percentage is adequate for the 365-subsequent-days credit calculation. It doesn't matter at which 36

Current status: bad things are happening in the North Virginia datacenter. EC2, EBS and RDS are all down on US-east-1. Edit: Heroku, Foursquare, Quora and Reddit are all experiencing subsequent issues.

I believe Tim Berners-Lee himself has said that he regrets introducing the "www." prefix. [citation needed] Edit: he was, in fact, regretting the double slashes. Thanks for the correction.

I know the verb "open-sources" is not well defined, but... Publishing 2 github repositories, each with several classes which are mostly trivial, is not "opensourcing". Much like the fact that a weekend project is not a "startup".
