There’s also the issue of company valuations being based on the “value of your IP”. Being able to pull out a large number of patents to show your investors can raise the stock price, whether or not the patents are any good.

Grocery delivery is the worst for me. The store gives you the worst produce possible, and if something’s not in store, the substitution is often nonsensical.

If we're talking about driving (and parking) your own car, then for all intents and purposes, no, it doesn't matter. If you spend $800/month on 2 reserved parking spots, on top of insane car insurance, you might be able to sh

The NYC metro is a far, far safer way to travel than driving. 121 people die in traffic yearly in New York City. In the highest-crime year in recent memory (2022) there were 10 deaths in the metro. Generally it's 2 or 3 yearly.

Google obviously has the advantage here, but it also seems like they’re willing to squander it. The Gemini rollout has basically been clippy 2.0 so far. The Gemini interface in gcloud seems to know nothing about how services work, the chat

There are really really good reasons why certain places are expensive vs. cheap. Having no access to walkable areas, fresh food, education, safe water, or public amenities in general is not a dignified way to live for most people. It's

In my experience parks in suburban areas tend to be reserved for sports facilities (baseball, tennis, etc) and playgrounds. They’re not usually nice places to hang out.

Plenty of people grow up wanting to be a cook though. Usually if you take the “low-status” element of a job away and give people autonomy, the shitty jobs become desirable to someone. Hell, I know kids who want to be garbagemen because hang

Change my view: If a company has successfully automated a support action (e.g. “help me link 2 accounts”) then it’s a part of the application itself. “Automating customer support” is just a cop out. It’s saying, “we’d love to have this be p
