I wonder if part of the problem is that democracies don't really work well when for example Americans care about only themselves. One classic example is NIMBYs in cities. Of course, the debt-based economy only compounds the problem.

The fun thing is that while I focus mostly on the US debt-based economy, the UK don't seem to be much better today.

This reminds me that Windows Server 2003 custom support at one point tends to be mentioned in every quarterly earnings statement of MS.

Thinking about it, I imagine that one instance of Google Analytics would be fine, but tying two instances of it in order to track a user would probably be ridiculous, right?

And the IEEE actually have done better in some cases, including when they decided to adopt AEAD for WPA2/802.11i which led to WPA2-CCMP still being used today. This Dragonfly SAE algorithm came from 802.11s from 2011, BTW.

I am trying to trace the problems back to Larry/Sergey though. I am thinking of getting rid of the malware part to make it a bit shorter BTW.

I had a separate Ask HN. Tracing some of the history, including Google Analytics that is mentioned in my essay/overview, is quite interesting.

I wonder how does this exactly work technically. I am still working on the essay/overview BTW.

WPA3 Personal seems to be another name for SAE that was defined in 802.11s.

I think this is probably a misinterpretation.

What is fun is how hard was it for me to research some of the parts, and this is one of them.

I mentioned that in my essay/overview BTW.

It is already hitting the news now. The 10nm delays don't help here.

Mentioned Google Analytics in the overview. The history is quite interesting.

Nothing, just mentioning the history. It is worth mentioning since VeriSign was one of the first CAs.

My favorite story is when Mark Shuttleworth sold Thawte to VeriSign and used the money to start Canonical. This shows one of the problems of the current debt-based economy.

My favorite is how Skype did things like making calls using SYSENTER and reading the BIOS using NTVDM before MS bought them. Of course, you won't see MS employees talk much about it.

I found out that they got rid of the support for the "EA DATA. SF" file for FAT12/FAT16 in Vista.

Yes, I mentioned the history of popup blockers in my essay. It dates back to the Netscape 6/7 era.

There is a reason why I wrote my Google DoubleClick essay. What is fun is that credit cards directly ties an increase in debt to consumer spending, which in turn goes to Google as ad dollars in this case

There used to be at least one issue about this, and of course it has been fixed by now: https://github.com/Microsoft/vscode/issues/16131
