I don't want to act flamey here, but you should read [The Blind Watchmaker][1], R. Dawkins. The whole book is pretty interesting and analyzes exactly that complexity from an evolutionary perspective. There's also a chapter in which he descr

That's exactly the whole point of Operational Transformation. It's the "algorithm" that powers Google Docs, and stores data as a sequence of transformations that can be applied ("can operate") on a previous document state to build a new one

I had that same idea more than once, to propose a local per-element media query. In fact the concept itself of querying the whole window to understand the dimension a portion of it will occupy... well it's strange. At the same time, have yo

Are we really comparing Python to JavaScript "as they are"? What make you choose a language instead of another one is the environment. Would you use a library-less python? Is Node.js cool because it's JavaScript, or it's cool for the miriad

And when I'll see a Python code running on my browser rendering on a Canvas as the Emscriten QT port does... I'll make myself blind with a fork in front of the developer of such a beast, yelling: "How the f--- am I supposed to use this now?

The logo it's an animated gif. That's awesome. The only animated gif I ever seen on a web site that actually is stylish.

I still don't get why we're using the API version in the url . We should use the specialized content-type instead!

I'm not talking about single occurence of the "bad" pattern. If you multiple it to the occurence in a whole code base... well you get the point. That's why underscore and coffee-script treat default assignement that way.

If you don't mind, I need to correct the form a little. If this becomes a pattern in a big application you are losing performance for nothing. In fact you're just compacting an if: if (arg1 == null) { // check for both `undefined` and

Probably a terrible mistake from the developer, not the minifier. fireToken: f.tradeTokens.data.fireToken === 1 ? true : false In my company I see JS code like the following: if (!!someFlag) { /* ... */ }

Oh gosh. I just understood the problem. It's simply the fact that it runs the code. I thought it was somehow a problem of the editor. Shame on me.

This does not mean that the funding has closed. There are a lot of stretched goals that should be reached. But at least the project will be open, and that's fantastic.

do you have any economic reasons to keep it closed? If the answer is no, then push it open source. Full stop. It's a gain for everyone.

Yes, not for the syntax itself, but for a mere "smell" of code quality. The use of "new Object" is found only in two kind of JS code incredibly old or incredibly badly written.

I'm ashamed that a lot of rants about languages get so many points here on HN. This article, in particular, is written by a JavaScript ignorant, which for the first time approaches the language. Even worse, "JavaScript the good parts" is a

I love the application. The thing I love most is your "license". I thought to distribute some app in the same way too: "can you build it? It's free if you don't want to pay for it."
