Reminds me of a clever exploit. The code for the OS is backdoor free, but the running OS has a backdoor. Once the running OS compiles a new OS from code it installs the backdoor. This way, no matter how much the code is inspected, backdo

This is exactly why I still use R. Throw data in a file, suck it into R, start playing with slicing and visualization with a few commands. Once I get something interesting, a few more tweaks and I have a nice, descriptive graph.

Or a market solution will be decisive if it gets to that point. The courts broke up Microsoft, and it's not like that hurt them at all.

There should be a competition for most useful software with most offensive name. Then we can make all the software stacks of top companies likely to result in jail time when discussed in public. That would be funny.

I graphed death rate by absolute latitude for countries with more than 1000 cases, and there is a clear trend. There is a bulge in the middle latitudes, and dips toward the lower and higher latitudes. My guess is the virus doesn't do

If we took computers away from software developers, maybe we'd get much more well thought out solutions. Probably much simpler, too, if they have to write out everything by hand :)

I think it comes down to communism. According to Marx's book "The Machine" the end game of communism is essentially an omnibenevolent AI. Marx thought eventually all forms of labor would be mechanised into a colossal machin

On other posts I see the "off topic" argument met with the "anything hn readers like is on topic". Not sure why it is different in this case. 178 likes indicates a decent amount of the HN readership.

Yes, I don't think HN leadership is pro-CCP. However, I do think there is some kind of CCP influence at work. Whether it is normal HN participants that are more understanding of CCP, and dislike the blanket dismissal they get, or the
