Yeah, the intel driver in Mojave on my 2015 13" pro has a bunch of issues. I see random buffer garble when waking the external screen, sometimes the machine freezes with hw video decoding and the resolution switches to low-def on monit

Of course it's about compatibility, about code-reuse of existing libraries. – Which is done a lot to this day.

I know Apple will not re-sell devices obtained in a buyback/trade-in deal, but being confronted with the reality of it like this makes me think. After boiling off the pragmatic trade offs, I'm left being slightly baffled by discou

URL parsing is a nightmare. There are lots of RFCs, but the real world is full of quirks. This will lead to edge case differences between the implementations. Also, which URI standard is part of the spec, what if the URI standard evolves?

There are alternative apps for the Mi Band that work purely on-device. Mi Band Master is one of them. The setup is a bit more involved with newer bands, but a one-time thing. Works really well.

They probably invoke maven with "mvn clean package" which does a fresh complete build, but only for deploying it.

Maven is incremental per default. Also java compilation is much faster than kotlin, so it is less of a problem. Furthermore, IntelliJ (as much as I love it) has a terrible live compilation story compared to eclipse. Eclipse recompiles affec

Interesting, didn't Rage pioneer the on-demand texture streaming approach? It fits well with the DMA SSDs in the coming console generation. Wow, that's now a decade ago.

Wow, this looks awesome. This formfactor, combined with a LoRa transceiver would be epic as an off-grid or fallback comms device. I get fuzzy cyberpunk feelings imagining it. Bunnie's projects are always intriguing. I'm still amaz

A 128bit ISA is super unlikely. We're barely using the 48bit implemented in AMD64 of 64 possible address bits. Wider data arguments are already implemented as AVX/2/512.

its a rather expensive operation, so restricting for anonymous users is a sensible trade off.

It is the other way around though. I firmly believe iOS security is driven by preventing jail breaks and homebrew apps to protect their AppStore revenue.

Well, it all depends on what operations you need. exact key lookup/write? -> Easy, just use any KV store and append the version to the key, then do a ceil/floor lookup in the KV with the key+target version. Supporting efficient

The proof is just the nodes in the path of the merkle tree to the root. (or all sibling nodes of the path to the root). So proof "generation" is just fetching the nodes and sending them to the client.

Nice! I implemented pretty much the same trade off set in an authenticated storage system. single writer, radix merkle tree, persistent storage, hashed keys, proofs. I guess it is a local maxima within that trade off space. I like how the t

Ah yes, decidedly pro-nuclear stance here. The first obvious omissions that come to mind are: 1. The evacuations took place while the meltdown was ongoing, evacuating was the sane choice given the available knowledge at the time. 2. There i
